In this cold december month, we have chosen to read "This Is How You Lose The Time War" together. It is written by Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone, and as usual we will drink a tea that pairs well with the book as we discuss it.

"Among the ashes of a dying world, an agent of the Commandant finds a letter. It reads: Burn before reading. Thus begins an unlikely correspondence between two rival agents hellbent on securing the best possible future for their warring factions. Now, what began as a taunt, a battlefield boast, grows into something more. Something epic. Something romantic. Something that could change the past and the future.

Except the discovery of their bond would mean death for each of them. There's still a war going on, after all. And someone has to win that war."

Les événements organisés par Brain Freeze Montréal sont aujourd’hui la référence locale en ce qui a trait à la musique électronique de performance. Matière première donne à voir un processus de création privilégiant le hasard, l'aléatoire, le contingent, l'accident, le difforme en relation avec la représentation fluctuante de l'identité dont les selfies volumétriques de l’artiste constituent la matière première. Les points de vue transforment le concret des captations en espace virtuel abstrait. Et les accidents de captation, tels que les espaces vides ou distorsions résultant de lacunes dans la saisie numérique, sont délibérément laissés apparents, voire provoqués. Plutôt que de chercher à effacer les imperfections du réalisme, à dissimuler les pixels, le bruit et les problèmes de numérisation, Yan Breuleux exploite leurs potentiels expressifs.

Yan Breuleux (M.A.Sc, D.Mus) est professeur agrégé à l'École NAD-UQAC UQAC (École des arts numériques, de l'animation et du design), co-chercheur au sein du réseau Hexagram et directeur du laboratoire Mimesis. Sa pratique artistique se situe dans le domaine de la musique visuelle pour des dispositifs immersifs.

Raw Material shows a creative process favoring chance, the random, the contingent, the accident, the deformed in relation to the fluctuating representation of identity of which the artist's volumetric selfies constitute the raw material. The points of view transform the concreteness of the recordings into abstract virtual space. And capture accidents, such as empty spaces or distortions resulting from gaps in digital input, are deliberately left apparent, even provoked. Rather than seeking to erase the imperfections of realism, to hide pixels, noise and digitization problems, Yan Breuleux exploits their expressive potential.

Bio
Yan Breuleux (M.A.Sc, D.Mus) is an associate professor at the NAD-UQAC UQAC School (School of Digital Arts, Animation, and Design), a co-researcher within the Hexagram network, and the director of the Mimesis laboratory. His artistic practice is centered around visual music for immersive devices.

Qi-Flow - a blend of Qi-Gong and Contact-Improvisation - a technique developed by Saule.

It is an exploration of somatic movement that begins with a connection to Qi, the vital energy in the body. It is an invitation to pause, listen to oneself, and thus develop an intimate friendship with one's body and mind.

⭕️SAULE:
Saule Ikigai is fascinated by the human body from a somatic perspective. As a massage therapist, she teaches Yoga & Qi-Gong. She also practices TaiChi and various forms of dance. All of these elements add diverse and complementary flavors to her workshops. She is passionate about creating and facilitating workshops. In her experience: Love'n'Light Festival (Qi-Flow and Loving Touch), Wøm-Féminitude Retreat (Intuitive Dance), Wømboost Retreat (Moxibustion and Contact Improv), I am Gathering (Contact-Improv and Qi-Gong), Wild Women Retreat (organizer and facilitator: meditation, yoga, icy water immersion).

Saule Ikigai est fascinée par le corps humain d'un point de vue somatique. En tant que massothérapeute, elle enseigne le yoga et le Qi-Gong. Elle pratique également le TaiChi et diverses formes de danse. Tous ces éléments ajoutent des saveurs diverses et complémentaires à ses ateliers. Elle est passionnée par la création et la facilitation d'ateliers. Dans son expérience : Festival Love'n'Light (Qi-Flow et Loving Touch), Retraite Wøm-Féminitude (Danse intuitive), Retraite Wømboost (Moxibustion et Contact Improv), I am Gathering (Contact-Improv et Qi-Gong), Retraite Wild Women (organisatrice et facilitatrice : méditation, yoga, immersion dans l'eau glacée).

Vous êtes invité·es à la quatrième édition de la soirée de performance Chambre d'échos, qui aura lieu le 20 janvier de 19:00 à 22:00 PM. Coorganisé de manière conviviale, l'événement se tiendra à nouveau aux Ateliers Belleville !

Chambre d’échos est un événement D.I.Y invitant des artistes en arts visuels et en arts vivants à présenter des échos qui traversent leurs pratiques dans des espaces décomplexés et vibrants exempts de la pression professionnelle des lieux institutionnels. Les soirées sont entièrement financées par la vente de billets et tous les profits vont équitablement aux artistes et organisateur·trices.

Les Ateliers Belleville se trouvent au 545 rue Legendre O. dans la Cité de la Mode (proche de Chabanel). Il est facile de vous y rendre à la marche (20 min.) à partir du Métro Crémazie (Sortie Nord-Ouest) ou en prenant les autobus sur St-Laurent ou Parc.
L’espace se situe en haut d’une dizaine de marches. Une deuxième entrée est accessible sur le côté en utilisant un monte-charge. Faites-nous signe si vous avez des besoins spécifiques, nous ferons de notre mieux pour vous accommoder.

You're warmly invited to the fourth edition of the performance evening Chambre d'échos, on January 20th, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Co-organized in a convivial way, the event will again take place at Ateliers Belleville!

Chambre d'échos is a D.I.Y. event inviting Visual and Live Art artists to present echoes that run through their practices in relaxed, vibrant spaces free from any professional pressure. The evenings are financed entirely by ticket sales, with all profits going equitably to the artists and organizers.

Les Ateliers Belleville is located at 545 rue Legendre O. in the Cité de la Mode (near Chabanel). It's an easy 20-minute walk from Crémazie Metro (North-West Exit), or a short bus ride from St-Laurent or Parc. The space is located at the top of ten or so steps. A second entrance is accessible from the side using a freight elevator. Let us know if you have any special needs, and we'll do our best to accommodate you.
