Pour notre Exposition de vitrine d'hiver, qui se tiendrade la mi-dcembre 2025 au dbutjanvier 2026, nous invitons les candidates, qu'il s'agisse d'artistes ou de collectifs, proposer des uvres autour du thme : INVERSE. Nous recherchons des propositions qui jouent et explorent les notions d'intrieur et d'extrieur, qui jouent avec le fait de rvler ce qui est habituellement cach et de dissimuler ce qui est normalement expos. De l'intrieur l'extrieur, du haut l'envers, le thme invite aux inversions et aux interventions qui remettent en question la manire dont les choses sont habituellementprsentes, redfinissent la relation entre des opposs supposs.

Frdric Back Park sits on 40 million tonnes of material. On the surface, you'll find mysterious orbs, venting ports for an active process happening beneath our feet. Asthe sun sets, we'll paint with light on the orbs.

*What to expect*
Experimental play at dusk, exploring trash, territory, and transformation. Bring a flashlight or bikelight and dress warm.

We'll begin with a mediative ritual as the sun sets, and shift into faster-paced play in the late dusk.

Il me fera plaisir de vous accueillir pour partagerce qui a t sem, ce qui continue de crotre, et ce qui est mont en graine travers le temps, la pense et les gestes de ces trois dernires annes.

trePlante est une exploration relationnelle ne dun geste de soin : offrir mon corps comme milieu de germination une plante dintrieur une semence de Chlorophytum comosum. Pendant 42 jours,jai incub cette plantule surmon corps, en larrosant uniquement avec de leau distille partir de mon urine. Aujourdhui, nous continuons vivre ensemble : aprs un an, jai cess de larroser quotidiennement avecleau extraite de mon urine, mais je la fertilise parfois avec unengrais produit partir de celle-ci.
Ce projet prend racine dans l'inconfort profond que me procurela posture exploitante et extractiviste que l'humain adopte envers la Terre. Je cherche inverser cette dynamique en tablissant unerelation sympotique cest--dire une relation co-crative o lexistence de chacun se faonne dans des systmes complexes et de soin avec une plante dintrieur, dont la capacit dadaptation des environnements souvent inadapts symbolise une rsilience qui rsonne avec ma propre exprience en tant que personne crip*.
Cette attention la vulnrabilit traverse galement lcriture prsente danslexposition. Les crits qui laccompagnent ouvrent un univers o les lois qui encadrent lettres et mots disparaissent, o la diffrence est accueillie, o les mots peuvent exister dans leur multiplicit. Par ces fautes linguistiques visibles, je souhaite explorercomment la vulnrabilit et laltercapacit peuvent transformer nos manires dhabiter le monde.
tre plante propose ainsi un espace o lerreur, lattention et la fragilit sont accueillies et devient, par ses fragments relationnels et exprientiels, une opportunit de rflchir nos liens avec tous les autres tres vivants.

18 h dans le thtre Paul-Desmarais, la commissaire de lexposition Shirley Surya, Conservatrice Design etArchitecture au M+, Hong Kong, prsentera lexposition, sa recherche et sa position curatoriale. Join us on November 20 for the opening and book launch of How Modern: Biographies of Architecture in China 19491979. The exhibition and publicationchallenge the often rigid and monolithic perception of socialist modernity in China by exploring the architectural practices of the time, revealing their diversity, inventiveness, and complex connectionsto political, social, and cultural contexts.

At 6pm in the Paul-Desmarais Theatre, exhibition curator Shirley Surya, Curator, Design and Architecture, at M+, Hong Kong,will present the project and her curatorial approach. The presentation will be followed by a conversation with architectural historian Li Hua from Southeast University, Nanjing, and co-editor of the publication, as well as artist Wang Tuo, who created new works as part of the exhibition and publication.

This event will be held in English and is free of charge. As space is limited, registration is required. If the event is full, we encourage you to come to the CCA front desk ten minutes before the start,as places may become available.

Le 5 avril 2025 passé a eu lieu la 11e édition de taBURNak! : un événement urbain unique à la communauté Burner de Montréal, où elle se mélange à d’autres communautés le temps d’une nuit pour accueillir des projets uniques, farfelus et ancrés dans la vie nocturne.

Vous vous rappelez peut-être de votre game d’échecs de 1:45am où vous avez blâmé le brouillard pour justifier votre défaite? Ou votre folle danse silencieuse à côté du Bar en ébullition? Votre photo en surimpression avec celle de votre crush de la soirée, que vous avez amené.e ensuite faire un câlin de circonstances dans un peignoir interactif pendant le solo de saxophone? Les bouchées sucrées et salées qui ont magiquement apparu pendant votre down d’énergie du dance-floor?

Et si on se redonnait la chance de vivre ça pour une année de plus?

Cet événement est co-créé uniquement par des volontaires, que ce soit l’art, les interactivités, l’accueil, la coordination générale, le bar, etc. Et au moment d’écrire ces lignes, on vous appelle : pour que ça se redonne, l’équipe de coordination a besoin de vous !

Au cours du dernier mois, les participantes ges de 15 18 ans ont pris part des ateliers de recherche, derdaction et ddition dirigs par lquipe des programmes publics, avec la collaboration de lquipe des Publications du CCA, du designer graphiste Matthias Kreutzer (Our Polite Society) et du studio lAbricot. Le projet explore comment lauto-dition peut devenir un outil dobservation et de rflexion sur la ville.

Chaque participante a conu unzine combinant une dimension individuelle et une composante collective, reliant sa propre recherche une lecture partage du paysageurbain montralais, et rvlant les textures, traces et rcits qui le faonnent. Les publications ont t conues et imprimes laide de techniques de risographie prsentes au cours du programme.

Please join us for the launch of The UrbanUnknown, a collective zine project developed by the participants ofthe CCA Youth Collective.

Over the past months, participants agedfrom 15 to 18 have taken part in research, editing, and publishing workshops led by the Public Programs team, with contributions from CCA Publications, Matthias Kreutzerof Our Polite Society, and lAbricot studio. The project exploreshow self-publishing can become a tool for observing and reflecting on the city.

Each participant designed a zine that combines an individual and a shared component, connecting personal research with a collective view of Montrals urban landscape and uncovering the subtle textures, traces, and narratives that shape it. The works were designed and printed using risograph techniques introduced during the program.

Copies will be available at the CCA Bookstore.

noise cocoon est la fois une uvre dart sonore gnrative et un dispositif de diffusion multicanal fait sur mesure. Le dispositif tantconstruit tel un mini-dme dun peu moins dun demi-mtre de diamtre, il est positionn au-dessus de la tte du participant et invite une coute rapproche et dlicate des sonorits in situ. Luvre sonore diffuse se dploie tel un microcosme singulier directement influenc par lenvironnement immdiat. Dans ce projet, le lieu de diffusion est considr comme un tre plus-quhumain cest--dire, une entit constitue de plusieurs lments (vivants ou non) interdpendants et en constante interaction. travers lamplification et la valorisation des bruits et autres subtilits acoustiques, luvre souligne la vitalit du lieu par une mise en vidence de soncaractre bruit unique et changeant, et en refltant lcosystme, la multitude dagents qui le compose. noise cocoon se veutun projet qui incite lauditoire percevoir le lieu de diffusion sous un nouveau jour : non pas comme une simple coquille vide, mais comme une entit part entire, elle-mme constitue dindividus actifves. Le terme bruit (souvent employ de manire pjorative comme tant drangeant ou involontaire) est ici utilis pour dfinir la matire premire acoustique de luvre. Or dans ce contexte-ci, les bruits du lieu sont clbrs plutt que dtre considrs comme parasites. Cette approche fait notamment cho la musique noise, plus spcifiquement au genre Onkykei originaire du Japon, style reconnu pour son traitement subtil etsporadique de la matire bruite.

noise cocoon is both a generative sound art piece and a custom-made multichannel broadcastingdevice. The system captures and processes the noises present in itssurroundings in real time, redistributing them to the listener in apersonalized and intimate way. The device is built like a mini-domemeasuring just under half a meterin diameter. It is positioned above the participants head, inviting them to listen closely and delicately to the in situ soundscape.The piece unfolds like a singularmicrocosm directly influenced by the immediate environment. In thisproject, the space is considered a more-than-human being that is, an entity made up of several (living and non-living) interdependent and constantly interacting elements. Through the amplification and appreciation of noises and otheracoustic subtleties, the work highlights the spaces vitality by emphasizing its unique and ever-shifting noisy character, and by reflecting its ecosystem, and the throng of agents that compose it. noise cocoon aims to encourage the audience to perceive the venue in a new light: not as an empty shell, but as an entity in its own right,itself composed of active individuals. The term noise (often used pejoratively to mean disturbing or unintentional) is used here to define the pieces acoustic raw material. In this context, the noises that permeate the space arecelebrated rather than consideredas parasites. This approach echoes noise music, more specifically the Onkykei genre originating in Japan, a style known for its subtle and sporadic treatment of noisy matter.

Rising Through the Fray follows the team as it welcomes a new generation of players set on changing the face of roller derby – a sport that champions female empowerment and inclusivity but lacks diversity. For its 2026-2027 programming year, articule has chosenDEPROGRAMMING as its theme. Following a move in the middle of the pandemic, staff turnover, burnout, and financial uncertainty, articule is scheduling some time to recalibrate. We invite you to transformand adapt our space, to try out fresh ideas, and to make old ideas new again.

Taking a break from 6-week exhibitions, we are seeking proposals that may not fit neatly into a white cube, such as public interventions, live art projects, happenings, new artistic practices,public talks, workshops, screeningsany and all sort of undisciplinary activities. We invite local,national and international artists, collectives, art institutions and curators to submit proposals that respond to this theme in whatever way they see fit.

The first edition features work by Samuel Alie, Giliane April, Mathieu Bouchard, Lilou Crosson, Yassin De Hullessen, Ange Houtin, Thierry Lambert, Phalonne Pierre Louis, SUPER CLUB VIDEO, Yanick Tanguay et Johnatan Tremblay. These works were created as part of the course Atelier de création I taught by Professor Julie Trudel.

PART I: Arya Deva Suryanegara & Srayamurtikanti


I Putu Arya Deva Suryanegara est un compositeur et musicien originaire de Kerobokan, Bali, dont le travail explore des approches exprimentales ancres dans le gamelan balinais et les systmes de musique assiste par ordinateur. Arya se concentre sur l'lectroacoustique, la psychoacoustique, la spatialisation sonore et l'interaction humain-machine dans le contexte des performances multicanaux et des installations sonores robotiques.

Ni Nyoman Srayamurtikanti est une compositrice et musicienne originaire de Celuk, Sukawati, Gianyar, Bali.Sa pratique musicale explore des uvres exprimentales, thtrales et ractives au lieu, ancresdans les traditions du gamelan balinais. Sraya est directrice artistique de Sanggar S'mara Murti et CIRAT.

Dans le cadre du projet CIRAT, ils s'engagent dans des approches interdisciplinaires de la cration et de la performance musicales, impliquant l'utilisation de latechnologie, la manipulation de l'espace scnique et les pratiquesaudiovisuelles.

Under the project CIRAT, theyengage in interdisciplinary approaches to music creation and performance, involving the use of technology, stage space manipulation, and audiovisual practices.


PART II: David Rosenboom


David Rosenboom est un compositeur, interprteet auteur post-genre dont le travail, depuis les annes 1960, couvre de multiples facettes : performances musicales, compositions aux formes spontanment volutives, collaborations interculturelles, multimdia interactif, nouvelles technologies instrumentales, recherche et philosophie en art-science,et art crbral. Il se produit rgulirement dans des salles internationales et a fait l'objet degrandes rtrospectives au Whitney Museum of American Art, au Centre Pompidou-Metz, au Tokyo Opera City et dans d'autres lieux. Il continue tre largement publi etenregistr et travaille actuellement sur son prochain livre, Propositional Music. Au cours de sa longue carrire, il a occup des postes importants SUNY Buffalo, Electric Circus (New York), York University (Toronto), Mills College,CalArts, parmi d'autres.

Rosenboom prsentera deux uvres :
Portable Gold and Philosophers Stones (Deviant Resonances), pour deux interprtes d'ondes crbrales et un interprte de l'lectronique informatique ; et
Future TravelExtracts, qui revisite les modles musicaux gnratifs propositionnels bass sur la morphogense rsonante.


David Rosenboom is a post-genre composer-performer-author whose work since the 1960shas traversed multifaceted musical performance, spontaneously evolving forms in composition, cross-cultural collaborations, interactivemulti-media, new instrument technologies, art-science research and philosophy, and brain art. He regularly presents in international venues and has had major retrospectives at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Centre Pompidou-Metz, Tokyo Opera City, and other places. He continues to be widely publishedand recorded and is working on his forthcoming book, Propositional Music. During his long career he has held important positions at SUNY Buffalo, Electric Circus (New York), York University (Toronto), Mills College, CalArts, and others.

Rosenboom will perform two works:
Portable Gold and Philosophers Stones (Deviant Resonances), fortwo brainwave performers and one computer-electronics performer; and
Future TravelExtracts, that revisits generative propositional musical models based on resonant morphogenesis.

For one night only, artist Michela Snoyer will host a performance in which she invites attendees to write their fears, distresses, blockages onto a piece of paper which she will then fold into origami hearts and add them to a plexiglass vessel in the centre of the space. THE FIELD

A weekly embodiment lab & deep listening practice
Autumn 2025: 10-week series
Wednesdays 6:45 PM - 8:45 PM, Metro Mont-Royal


Field Studies are weekly guided embodiment labs where you will explore how to tune your body as an instrument of resonance. A practice in deep listening, each session refines your receptivity and your attention to live sound, breath, impulse, and spatial awareness.

When we enter “The Field”, we work with the following pillars:
deep listening, curiosity, improvisation, imagery, play, tuning, witnessing, and ritual (*please read in more detail below).

Dance improvisation artist, Valerie Sabbah, will guide explorations of movement and stillness, where you will experiment both responding to and shaping the musical landscape that is being improvised in real-time by multi-instrumentalist and live improv artist Emma Anders.
Movement becomes both response and offering as you enter into a shared space of sonic-somatic research. What emerges is a collective composition - a living score of mutual resonance.


WHO IS THIS FOR

This container is for anyone searching to learn to land into and inhabit more fully the body and in becoming aligned and congruent as an expressive being. This container invites pathways to the innate artist within and a return to inner sovereignty as a lived, embodied experience. We are cultivating receptive capacity and trust in the body’s wisdom, to surrender to our own timing, truth, and expression as they emerge and are witnessed.
The aim is to learn how to work from where we are, as we are. To come to meet the information inside ourselves and connect to our inner impulse and music. To gain access to our entire aliveness, and to fully engage. To become fully resonant, and express ourselves freely and fully.

This is your opportunity to learn improvisational and compositional movement techniques. This research container invites intention, presence, care, and curiosity—honoring both the singular journey and the shared field.

PILLARS OF “THE FIELD”

1. DEEP LISTENING
Deep listening is the practice of being fully present and receptive to sound, silence, the environment, and one’s inner experience. It involves listening with the whole self . It is an active, intentional process that cultivates heightened awareness, empathy, and connection — both to others and to the self.

2. CURIOSITY
We approach each moment with curiosity, allowing questions, sensations, and impulses to guide our exploration.

3. IMPROVISATION
Improvisation is our core mode of research — structured through scores* or open exploration, it reveals what wants to emerge in the moment.
*Scores: A score is a structured improvisation—a set of poetic constraints or propositions that guide movement, sound, and attention. Scores create a shared framework for exploration, inviting participants to enter specific physical, spatial, or relational configurations that activate deep listening, imagination, and presence. These structures support the emergence of the inner artist and foster a sense of inner sovereignty by offering clear yet open-ended invitations for embodied research and co-creation.

4. IMAGERY
Imagery (Imagining and Visualizing). We engage the imagination as a tool for embodiment, allowing inner images and visualizations to inform movement and expression.

5. PLAY
Playfulness keeps us open and fluid, inviting experimentation, joy, and discovery without attachment to outcome.

6. TUNING
We tune — to ourselves, to each other, to the space — cultivating attunement and resonance as a foundation for presence.

7. WITNESSING
We practice witnessing with care, offering and receiving attention that is non-judgmental, spacious, and supportive.

8. RITUAL
Ritual (Journaling, Circle, Sharing, Opening and Closing): Ritual grounds the container, marking beginnings and endings, and weaving integration through shared reflection and intention.

Un laboratoire incarné et une pratique d’écoute profonde

Ces « Field Studies » hebdomadaires sont des laboratoires de mouvement guidé, où vous explorerez comment accorder votre corps comme un instrument de résonance. Une pratique d’écoute profonde, chaque séance affine votre réceptivité et votre attention au son vivant, à la respiration, à l’impulsion et à la conscience de l’espace.

Lorsque nous entrons dans « The Field », nous travaillons avec les piliers suivants :
l’écoute profonde, la curiosité, l’improvisation, l’imagerie, le jeu, l’accordage, le témoignage et le rituel (*lisez en détail ci-dessous).

Artiste en improvisation dansée, Valerie Sabbah guidera des explorations de mouvement et d’immobilité, où chacun·e sera amené·e à expérimenter à la fois la réponse et la co-création du paysage musical improvisé en temps réel par la multi-instrumentiste et artiste d’improvisation live Emma Anders.
Le mouvement devient à la fois réponse et offrande, dans un espace de recherche sonico-somatique partagé. Ce qui émerge est une composition collective – une partition vivante de résonance mutuelle.

𝙷𝙾𝙼𝙴 est un ouvrage construit autour d’un concept que le monde contemporain rend de plus en plus vacillant : un chez-soi (something to call home). Ce sont des pratiques artistiques actuelles liées à l’image, des conversations privilégiées et intimistes avec des artistes au cours de la réalisation de différents projets qui ont inspiré l’amorce de la présente publication. 𝙷𝙾𝙼𝙴 élargit en des formes plus littéraires des sujets souvent fragiles, politiques, parfois dissimulés sous des dehors conceptuels, dont les fils cachés sont d’une récurrence troublante chez nombre d’artistes. Que peut-on encore appeler « chez-soi », « home »? 𝙷𝙾𝙼𝙴 réunit des textes de Karim Kattan, de Catherine Mavrikakis, de Kaitlyn Purcell, de Nina Yargekov et de France Choinière, éditrice de la publication, ainsi qu’une œuvre visuelle spécialement créée par Cindy Dumais pour habiter le cœur de l’ouvrage.

Le lancement de 𝙷𝙾𝙼𝙴 est une belle occasion de souligner l’apport de France Choinière, directrice générale et artistique, et de Jennifer Pham, coordonnatrice des communications et de l’édition, au centre. Cette publication est leur dernier projet d’envergure réalisé ensemble à Dazibao. De se réunir autour de la publication permet de leur rendre un chaleureux hommage et de célébrer leur engagement envers le milieu.

𝙷𝙾𝙼𝙴 grew out of a concept that is becoming increasingly shaky in today’s world: something to call home. The project was inspired by contemporary image-based art practices and privileged, intimate conversations with artists as they worked through their various projects. 𝙷𝙾𝙼𝙴 expands into literary form topics that are often fragile, political, or concealed behind a conceptual façade, with hidden threads that are disconcertingly recurrent in several artists’ work. What is there even to call home in the world as it is? 𝙷𝙾𝙼𝙴 is a collection of literary essays by Karim Kattan, Catherine Mavrikakis, Kaitlyn Purcell, Nina Yargekov, and France Choinière, also the book’s editor, as well as a visual piece created expressly by Cindy Dumais to inhabit the heart of the book.

The launch of 𝙷𝙾𝙼𝙴 is a meaningful moment to highlight the contributions of France Choinière, General and Artistic Director, and Jennifer Pham, Communications and Publishing Coordinator, to Dazibao. This publication marks their final major project together at the centre. Its launch offers an opportunity to come together, pay tribute to their work, and celebrate their dedication to the community.
