Musique Klezmer

Zafer Mamilli and Daniel Secunda play the klezmer music of Jewish Eastern Europe, featuring the traditional instrumentation of violin and tsimbl (hammered dulcimer). The repertoire is drawn from 100-year old recordings, manuscripts collected by traveling folklorists, and original compositions, and ranges from mournful violin laments to lively dances, melodies that tell stories of exile and exaltation.
Daniel and Zafer are members of the Montreal-based Yene Velt Yiddish string ensemble. Sharing a deep affinity for old European klezmer, they approach this genre with curiosity about the world from which the tunes wer...
