Sets and diverted urban furniture, versatile, with circus codes. A living environment where nothing is ordinary, where circus art becomes urban art: a table that suddenly turns into a circus ring; a German wheel that becomes a public bench; a trapeze sky and more await you between Sherbrooke and Sainte-Catherine streets.The festival has put together an astonishing program of spontaneous and ambulatory performances combining music, dance and circus arts that will take over rue Saint-Denis during the entire festival. La Place de la relèveL'ÉCOLE DE CIRQUE DE VERDUN will be in charge of youth activities. Participants will be able to experience a variety of circus arts disciplines under the supervision of animators, and transform themselves into real circus artists! Cette troisième soirée du cycle de performances articulées autour de l’haptique invite doux soft club, qui propose au public de plonger dans l’univers sportif en questionnant le toucher par la matière et le mouvement du tissu sur le corps. Par le mouvement et la matérialité, le collectif propose une confrontation tout en douceur qui se concentre sur les sensations et les ressentis corporels. La soirée se termine sur un DJ set Funk House de Joyce Joumaa.

DOUX SOFT CLUB / MATCH NUL

match nul, est une performance qui prend la forme d’une séance sportive ludique, entre les différent·e·s membres du collectif du doux soft club. Des ballons ergonomiques bleus sont employés par les joueur·euse·s et mènent à des explorations sportives prenant la forme d’un duel doux. Par l’emploi de positions verticales ou horizontales des corps, de jeux d’accélération et de décélération, de trajectoires aux géométries variables, d’échanges de balles, match nul se détermine comme un espace d’entraide et de bienveillance où il n’y a ni vainqueur ni perdant·e.

Le doux soft club est un collectif d’artistes-commissaires rassemblant les pratiques artistiques du duo Pénélope et Chloë, Mariane Stratis et Marion Paquette. Les quatre artistes se sont rencontré·e·s au baccalauréat en arts visuels et médiatiques à l’Université du Québec à Montréal (2012). C’est à travers de nombreux échanges et le désir de voir évoluer leurs pratiques ensemble qu’est né le doux soft club (2017). Animé par un désir de cohésion, le collectif voit comme essentiel le rapprochement des visions plurielles. Le club est une structure souple qui invite à des collaborations complices pour mieux partager, échanger, s’influencer. Le travail du doux soft club est diffusé au Canada dans le cadre d’expositions solo, dont à Vrille Art Actuel (La Pocatière, 2023), à la Fondation Phi pour l’Art Contemporain (Montréal, 2022), AXENÉO7 (Gatineau, 2019) et Verticale (Laval, 2021, 2019), et lors d’expositions collectives.

The third evening of the haptics-based performance series invites doux soft club, which invites the public to dive into the world of sports by examining the sense of touch through materials and the movement of fabric on the body. Using movement and materials, the collective provides a gentle exploration that emphasizes bodily sensations and feelings. The evening ends with a Funk House DJ set by Joyce Joumaa.

match nul is a performance resembling a playful sports session between members of the doux soft club collective. The players employ blue ergonomic balls and engage in gentle duels, using vertical and horizontal body positions and playing with acceleration, deceleration, trajectories, and ball exchanges. match nul is a space of mutual aid and benevolence, where no winners or losers exist.

Everybody’s favorite party girl Wendy is so back

When Wendy is nominated for the coveted National FoodHut Contemporary Art Prize alongside her friend Winona, all of her millennial dreams seem to be coming true. She lives a post-pandemic, polyamorous fine artist’s lifestyle in the big city and basks in the glory of national attention with the success of her popular comic strip, “Wanda."

But not even achieving bona fide art star fame can hide the truth: a never-ending struggle with imposter syndrome. After she cracks in an online interview and gets dragged in the comments section, she heads straight to a local watering hole to drown her sorrows. Several lines of coke, too many drinks, and one all night rager with fans later, Wendy is ready to curse Gen Z and confront her addictions. All the while, she and Winona drift apart as a younger Indigenous artist wedges herself between them. Will Wendy’s commitment to change wind up short-lived?

The Wendy Award incisively skewers the art world with its corporate overlords, performative activism, generational wealth, and weaponized therapy speak. A showcase of Walter Scott’s deft wit and social commentary, The Wendy Award asks the hard questions, like Do they still give awards to men? Should we be grateful for the exposure? And what exactly is Big Auntie Energy?

WALTER SCOTT:

Walter Scott is an interdisciplinary artist working in comics, drawing, video, performance, and sculpture. His graphic novel series Wendy chronicles the continuing misadventures of a young artist in a satirical imagining of the contemporary art world. Scott's eponymous party girl has previously been featured in three graphic novels Wendy; Wendy's Revenge and Wendy: Master of Art as well as in Canadian Art; Art in America; The New Yorker; The New York Times and MoMA Magazine. Scott has been nominated or longlisted for the Ignatz Awards, Canada Reads, the Believer Book Award, and the Doug Wright Award, and finally, the Sobey Art Award—considered to be the preeminent fine art award in Canada.
