In JUDITH, Sarah Chouinard-Poirier mobilizes, embodies, and gives voice to the figure of the living dead — this body that has been dehumanized and rendered monstrous — to expose the fear of the Other and denounce the narratives that govern the war on drugs. Drawing on references to popular culture and their own experience as an intervention and community worker, the artist delivers a multifaceted performance where zombies, cinema, humor, and theoretical underpinnings intersect in an embodied reflection on the hygienist, racist, and classist biopowers that govern substances and bodies.

Second edition of LUDODROME. Last year the event brought together more than 44 local experimental game makers and more than 450 visitors for a day of socializing, networking and fun!

Du 11 au 13 juin, les Ateliers Belleville et Eastern Bloc présentent une fin de semaine de célébrations pour l'ouverture officielle du LAB-545 : un nouveau lieu de création indépendant à Montréal. Trois jours de programmation déployée sur plusieurs étages : exposition collective, ateliers ouverts, visites, musique, rencontres et création en direct. Trois soirs de performances présentées par le festival SIGHT+SOUND, une 14e édition par Eastern Bloc réunissant neuf duos d'artistes issu·es des scènes numériques, sonores et expérimentales. Un moment rare où le public est invité à entrer au cœur des espaces de travail, des ateliers de fabrication et des univers des artistes qui habitent le lieu.

As part of the PHI residency project "Spectres of a Shared Future" by the artist collective Spoonful of Dirt (Andrea Williamson and Nina Marisa Pariser), the collective will present an afternoon and evening of activities that will explore urban rewilding and multispecies habitats at the Champ des Possibles. There will be animal stories told by Carol Kawisente McGregor of the Coyote program and member of the Kanien'kehá:ka (Mohawk) Nation, live radio broadcasting and interviews with CJLO, a BioBlitz with Fusion Urbain Nature and a screening with Pedalbox Gallery presenting Spoonful of Dirt's PHI residency project, featuring a sound piece by Spoonful of Dirt and Divine Foray, followed by Emma Davie and Peter Mettler's film Becoming Animal (2018).

A celebration of the cultures, histories and communities that make up today's Montreal on Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day. Join us on a journey inspired by the joyfully decorated and music-filled transits of the Global South. Performances by grassroots artists, craft tables and food, sustainable fashion show and tie-dye workshop, closing parade and evening festivities after 7 p.m. The full program will be published on our website. In a world increasingly marked by individualism and isolation, 'Relational Tensions' questions our ways of being together, of forming communities, of coexisting. The four performances of this festival explore our contemporary ways of interacting and relating, as well as the complexities that emerge from them. Elyse St-Amour calls for intergenerational solidarity, addressing the complexities of aging for feminized people in a society that champions youth. Tricia Enns invites you to explore how technology both fractures and fosters togetherness, walking the thin (and often moving) line between technological mediation that helps and harms us. Camille-Zoé Valcourt-Synnott provides artists with a space to talk shop–taken for granted in many professions–and a reminder of the radical potential of gathering together. Belén Pedrocca and Amanda Préval weave us through the often invisible work of forming friendships, mutual care routines, and the complexities of social relationships. Here, performance is a tool for encounters. An embodied space where bodies, ideas, experiences, struggles, and different forms of presence engage in dialogue. Relational Tensions will continue on Saturday, June 27th with a finissage at 7:30pm.
