Direct action is a tactical strategy of protest that seeks to achieve an end directly and by the most effective means. DIRECT ACTION is a contemporary portrait of one of the most high-profile militant activist communities in France: a 150-person strong rural collective that successfully resisted an international airport expansion project in 2018, created an autonomous zone between 2012 and 2018, survived multiple violent eviction attempts by the French state and spawned a new ecological movement in 2021.
Using a collaborative and immersive observational approach, the film documents the everyday lives of a diverse ecosystem of activists, squatters, anarchists, farmers and those labelled by the government as “eco-terrorists”. Can the success of a radical protest movement offer a path through the climate crisis?

Direct Action est une stratégie tactique de protestation qui vise à atteindre un objectif directement et par les moyens les plus efficaces. Ce film contemporain dresse le portrait d'une des communautés militantes les plus en vue en France : un collectif rural de 150 personnes qui a réussi à résister à un projet d'extension d'aéroport international en 2018, a créé une zone autonome entre 2012 et 2018, a survécu à de nombreuses tentatives d'éviction violente par l'État français, et a engendré un nouveau mouvement écologique en 2021.

À travers une approche collaborative et immersive, le film documente la vie quotidienne d'un écosystème diversifié d'activistes, de squatteurs, d'anarchistes, de paysans et de ceux que le gouvernement a qualifiés d'« éco-terroristes ». Le succès d'un mouvement de protestation radical peut-il offrir un chemin à travers la crise climatique ?
