A weekly embodiment lab & deep listening practice
Autumn 2025: 10-week series
Wednesdays 6:45 PM - 8:45 PM, Metro Mont-Royal


Field Studies are weekly guided embodiment labs where you will explore how to tune your body as an instrument of resonance. A practice in deep listening, each session refines your receptivity and your attention to live sound, breath, impulse, and spatial awareness.

When we enter “The Field”, we work with the following pillars:
deep listening, curiosity, improvisation, imagery, play, tuning, witnessing, and ritual (*please read in more detail below).

Dance improvisation artist, Valerie Sabbah, will guide explorations of movement and stillness, where you will experiment both responding to and shaping the musical landscape that is being improvised in real-time by multi-instrumentalist and live improv artist Emma Anders.
Movement becomes both response and offering as you enter into a shared space of sonic-somatic research. What emerges is a collective composition - a living score of mutual resonance.


WHO IS THIS FOR

This container is for anyone searching to learn to land into and inhabit more fully the body and in becoming aligned and congruent as an expressive being. This container invites pathways to the innate artist within and a return to inner sovereignty as a lived, embodied experience. We are cultivating receptive capacity and trust in the body’s wisdom, to surrender to our own timing, truth, and expression as they emerge and are witnessed.
The aim is to learn how to work from where we are, as we are. To come to meet the information inside ourselves and connect to our inner impulse and music. To gain access to our entire aliveness, and to fully engage. To become fully resonant, and express ourselves freely and fully.

This is your opportunity to learn improvisational and compositional movement techniques. This research container invites intention, presence, care, and curiosity—honoring both the singular journey and the shared field.

PILLARS OF “THE FIELD”

1. DEEP LISTENING
Deep listening is the practice of being fully present and receptive to sound, silence, the environment, and one’s inner experience. It involves listening with the whole self . It is an active, intentional process that cultivates heightened awareness, empathy, and connection — both to others and to the self.

2. CURIOSITY
We approach each moment with curiosity, allowing questions, sensations, and impulses to guide our exploration.

3. IMPROVISATION
Improvisation is our core mode of research — structured through scores* or open exploration, it reveals what wants to emerge in the moment.
*Scores: A score is a structured improvisation—a set of poetic constraints or propositions that guide movement, sound, and attention. Scores create a shared framework for exploration, inviting participants to enter specific physical, spatial, or relational configurations that activate deep listening, imagination, and presence. These structures support the emergence of the inner artist and foster a sense of inner sovereignty by offering clear yet open-ended invitations for embodied research and co-creation.

4. IMAGERY
Imagery (Imagining and Visualizing). We engage the imagination as a tool for embodiment, allowing inner images and visualizations to inform movement and expression.

5. PLAY
Playfulness keeps us open and fluid, inviting experimentation, joy, and discovery without attachment to outcome.

6. TUNING
We tune — to ourselves, to each other, to the space — cultivating attunement and resonance as a foundation for presence.

7. WITNESSING
We practice witnessing with care, offering and receiving attention that is non-judgmental, spacious, and supportive.

8. RITUAL
Ritual (Journaling, Circle, Sharing, Opening and Closing): Ritual grounds the container, marking beginnings and endings, and weaving integration through shared reflection and intention.

Ces « Field Studies » hebdomadaires sont des laboratoires de mouvement guidé, où vous explorerez comment accorder votre corps comme un instrument de résonance. Une pratique d’écoute profonde, chaque séance affine votre réceptivité et votre attention au son vivant, à la respiration, à l’impulsion et à la conscience de l’espace.

Lorsque nous entrons dans « The Field », nous travaillons avec les piliers suivants :
l’écoute profonde, la curiosité, l’improvisation, l’imagerie, le jeu, l’accordage, le témoignage et le rituel (*lisez en détail ci-dessous).

Artiste en improvisation dansée, Valerie Sabbah guidera des explorations de mouvement et d’immobilité, où chacun·e sera amené·e à expérimenter à la fois la réponse et la co-création du paysage musical improvisé en temps réel par la multi-instrumentiste et artiste d’improvisation live Emma Anders.
Le mouvement devient à la fois réponse et offrande, dans un espace de recherche sonico-somatique partagé. Ce qui émerge est une composition collective – une partition vivante de résonance mutuelle.

𝙷𝙾𝙼𝙴 est un ouvrage construit autour d’un concept que le monde contemporain rend de plus en plus vacillant : un chez-soi (something to call home). Ce sont des pratiques artistiques actuelles liées à l’image, des conversations privilégiées et intimistes avec des artistes au cours de la réalisation de différents projets qui ont inspiré l’amorce de la présente publication. 𝙷𝙾𝙼𝙴 élargit en des formes plus littéraires des sujets souvent fragiles, politiques, parfois dissimulés sous des dehors conceptuels, dont les fils cachés sont d’une récurrence troublante chez nombre d’artistes. Que peut-on encore appeler « chez-soi », « home »? 𝙷𝙾𝙼𝙴 réunit des textes de Karim Kattan, de Catherine Mavrikakis, de Kaitlyn Purcell, de Nina Yargekov et de France Choinière, éditrice de la publication, ainsi qu’une œuvre visuelle spécialement créée par Cindy Dumais pour habiter le cœur de l’ouvrage.

Le lancement de 𝙷𝙾𝙼𝙴 est une belle occasion de souligner l’apport de France Choinière, directrice générale et artistique, et de Jennifer Pham, coordonnatrice des communications et de l’édition, au centre. Cette publication est leur dernier projet d’envergure réalisé ensemble à Dazibao. De se réunir autour de la publication permet de leur rendre un chaleureux hommage et de célébrer leur engagement envers le milieu.

𝙷𝙾𝙼𝙴 grew out of a concept that is becoming increasingly shaky in today’s world: something to call home. The project was inspired by contemporary image-based art practices and privileged, intimate conversations with artists as they worked through their various projects. 𝙷𝙾𝙼𝙴 expands into literary form topics that are often fragile, political, or concealed behind a conceptual façade, with hidden threads that are disconcertingly recurrent in several artists’ work. What is there even to call home in the world as it is? 𝙷𝙾𝙼𝙴 is a collection of literary essays by Karim Kattan, Catherine Mavrikakis, Kaitlyn Purcell, Nina Yargekov, and France Choinière, also the book’s editor, as well as a visual piece created expressly by Cindy Dumais to inhabit the heart of the book.

The launch of 𝙷𝙾𝙼𝙴 is a meaningful moment to highlight the contributions of France Choinière, General and Artistic Director, and Jennifer Pham, Communications and Publishing Coordinator, to Dazibao. This publication marks their final major project together at the centre. Its launch offers an opportunity to come together, pay tribute to their work, and celebrate their dedication to the community.

Nous avons le plaisir de vous inviter au March de Nol Port-Royal de Belleville, qui runira plus de 90 exposant.e.s cette anne.

Fond en 2009 par des locataires des anciens ateliers du 305 Bellechasse, ce march mariant arts visuels et artisanat continue de grandir.

Des artistes en arts visuels sont invits mettre profit leur savoir-faire pour produire des objets uniques et abordables. De leur ct, des artisanes etartisans sont slectionns pourleur lien avec les arts visuels et la singularit de leur dmarche. Le march est but non lucratif : 100 % des revenus reviennentaux exposant.e.s.

Le march metlaccent sur laspect festif et rassembleur. Nous vous convions une soire de lancement, dansla plus belle ambiance du district Chabanel, le vendredi 12 dcembre, de 17 h 20 h.

Du samedi audimanche, tous les artistes seront sur place pour vous prsenter leurs productions annuelles. Une salle sera rserve pour les enfants, avec projection de films
de Nol. Le chef cuisinier des ateliersBelleville tiendra la cantine.
