S’appuyant sur leur pratique artistique et commissariale respective, Trevor Paglen et Tina Rivers Ryan exploreront le rôle qu’ont joué historiquement les nouvelles technologies dans les arts, aborderont l’état actuel de notre paysage iconographique et réfléchiront aux manières de maîtriser et surpasser les technologies de pointe. La discussion explorera la façon dont les nouvelles technologies ont transformé la création et la diffusion des oeuvres d’art ainsi que nos cadres sociopolitiques. Elle s’intéressera aux nouveaux défis qu’elles soulèvent de même qu’aux nouvelles avenues qu’elles rendent possibles.

Tina Rivers Ryan est critique, chercheuse, conférencière, commissaire et rédactrice en chef du magazine Artforum . Elle détient cinq diplômes, notamment des universités Harvard et Columbia. Elle a commissarié plusieurs expositions, dont Peer to Peer, la première rétrospective présentant des artistes américains travaillant avec les technologies de la chaîne de blocs et, avec Paul Vanouse, Difference Machines : Technology and Identity in Contemporary Art. Forte de ses connaissances dans le domaine des arts médiatiques, y compris l’art vidéo, numérique et internet, elle s’est penchée sur des sujets d’actualité comme la politique du glitch, les NFT, l’identité et l’art engagé. Tina Rivers Ryan a travaillé au MoMA PS1 ainsi qu’au Metropolitan Museum of Art, et a été la conservatrice principale du AKG Museum, avant de se retrouver à la barre d’Artforum. Ses écrits sont parus dans de nombreux magazines, revues savantes et catalogues pour de grandes institutions internationales telles que le Tate Modern et Pirelli HangarBicocca, à Milan. La Dre Ryan a également enseigné à l’Université Columbia et a été conférencière invitée dans plusieurs institutions, notamment au MoMA.

Les oeuvres de Trevor Paglen documentent l’éthique et la dynamique de la surveillance de masse au XXe siècle à travers de nombreuses disciplines, notamment la création d’images, la sculpture, le journalisme d’enquête, l’écriture et l’ingénierie. Extrêmement préoccupé par notre conception du moment historique actuel, il donne à voir les technologies de l’information invisibles qui traversent clandestinement nos territoires, notre ciel et nos sociétés. Paglen mène une enquête rigoureuse sur la surveillance d’État, le militarisme, l’intelligence artificielle, les données massives, de même que la façon dont ceux-ci influencent notre perception des machines, du monde naturel et plus encore. Son travail a été présenté dans des expositions importantes partout sur la planète, y compris au Protocinema d’Istanbul, à la Vienna Succession, au Smithsonian Museum of American Art, à Washington, et à la Fondazione Prada, à Milan. Il prépare actuellement des expositions pour le Des Moines Art Center, en Iowa, et la Powerhouse Parramatta, à Sydney.

Erin Manning
Explores what it means to be claimed, not just by blood, but by history, land, and the fragile web of human connection.
To belong is never a simple matter. For Erin Manning, ancestry has always been more of an entanglement than a strict lineage: a collection of stories, fabulations, and echoes of the past. Unsettled is a deeply personal and philosophical exploration of ancestry, identity, and belonging, particularly within the context of Québec’s settler-colonial history and its complex relationship with Indigeneity.
Here Manning describes her relationship with a close friend, R., who has lived a life shaped by poverty, subsistence farming, and a profound connection with the land. When R.’s mother bequeaths him their family land, he is left to navigate the tensions of inheritance, loss, and belonging. In an attempt to connect to R.’s Indigenous background, Manning offers to trace his genealogy. Soon, questions of what it means to “bestow” Indigeneity from an ancestral perspective begin to loom. Manning explores and critiques the practice of usurping Indigeneity in Québec, where claims of Métis ancestry are often leveraged for social or political gain, ultimately reinforcing whiteness and colonial structures rather than dismantling them. Through the lens of personal relationships, historical analysis, and philosophical inquiry, Unsettled challenges conventional notions of ancestry, property, and identity, while advocating for relational belonging over bloodline essentialism.

ERIN MANNING studies in the interstices of philosophy, aesthetics and politics, concerned, always, about alter-pedagogical and alter-economic practices. Recent monographs include The Minor Gesture (2016) and For a Pragmatics of the Useless (2020). 3e is the direction her current artistic research takes – an exploration of the transversality of the three ecologies, the social, the environmental and the conceptual. An iteration of 3e is a land-based project north of Montreal where living and learning is experimented. Legacies of SenseLab infuse the project, particularly the question of how collectivity is crafted in a more-than human encounter with worlds in the making.


BRIAN MASSUMI is the author of numerous works across philosophy, political theory, and art theory. His publications include The Personality of Power: A Theory of Fascism for Anti-Fascist Life (2025), 99 Theses for the Revaluation of Value: A Postcapitalist Manifesto (2018), and Couplets: Travels in Speculative Pragmatism (2021). With Erin Manning and 3Ecologies Project, he participates in the collective exploration of new ways of bringing philosophical and artistic practices into collaborative interaction.


MICHAEL NARDONE is a writer and editor based in Montréal. His recent books include Rafael Lozano-Hemmer: Border Tuner | Sintonizador Fronterizo (Inventory Press, 2026), Convivialities: Dialogues on Poetics (Talonbooks, 2025), and Aural Poetics (OEI Editör, 2023). SOUNDWICH XXII propose une soirée d’écoute immersive où le son devient matière vivante.
Tout comme les taupes (10’32’’) de Victor Drouin-Trempe est une exploration des micro-événements sonores issue d’une recherche en synthèse, combinant micro-sons et textures diffuses à l’aide de synthétiseurs développés sur mesure. La pièce privilégie des formes instables, les états et les transitions de densité plutôt que la narration ou le geste spectaculaire.
Kunmeti (26’00’’) est une performance semi-improvisée présentée pour la première fois sous le nom de Jean-Patrice Rémillard (alias Pheek). Axée sur une écoute immersive et méditative, la pièce déploie des textures délicates et organiques qui évoquent le mouvement naturel de la forêt, proposant un temps d’écoute essentiel et réconfortant face à la saturation de musique jetable.
Mimi Allard – Mémoire fantôme I [A/V] (9’30’’) est une performance poétique explorant le continuum entre mémoire et spéculation. À travers voix de synthèse, images générées et systèmes instrumentaux hybrides, la pièce met en scène le bureau d’ordinateur comme espace vivant de recherche, d’exécution et de diffusion, où s’entrelacent archives, projections futures et hallucinations de données.

SOUNDWICH XXII presents an immersive listening evening where sound becomes a living material.
Tout comme les taupes (10’32’’) by Victor Drouin-Trempe is an exploration of sonic micro-events rooted in research on sound synthesis, combining micro-sounds and diffuse textures through custom-developed synthesizers. The piece favors unstable forms, states, and transitions of density over narration or spectacular gesture.
Kunmeti (26’00’’) is a semi-improvised performance presented for the first time under the name Jean-Patrice Rémillard (aka Pheek). Focused on immersive and meditative listening, the work unfolds delicate, organic textures that evoke the natural movement of the forest, offering an essential and comforting listening time in response to the saturation of disposable music.
Mimi Allard – Mémoire fantôme I [A/V] (9’30’’) is a poetic performance exploring the continuum between memory and speculation. Through synthetic voices, generated images, and hybrid instrumental systems, the piece stages the computer desktop as a living space for research, execution, and real-time diffusion, where archives, future projections, and data hallucinations intertwine.
