The exhibition will present the work of designer-makers in ceramics, glass, textiles, and woodworking who were invited to reflect on the revalorization and creative reuse of production offcuts and scraps. An inevitable by-product of artisanal production, these materials are either reimagined through new techniques and materials or approached through installative works that reveal their technical, economic, ecological, and poetic dimensions.

After a two-year hiatus, Lambert & Fils is reopening its gallery located in the heart of its Mile End workshop. To mark this happy news, the studio is welcoming Ourse, a Toronto-based contemporary furniture manufacturer with production workshops in Montreal, as its first guest. A reservation is required for this one.

Join us for our next Translation Book Club meeting to discuss Season of Migration to the North, written by Tayeb Salih and translated by Denys Johnson-Davies. This event is open to all, so feel free to show up if you've read the book and want to talk about it; and if you haven't picked it up yet, but would like to participate, we have copies available in store! After years of study in Europe, the young narrator returns to his village along the Nile in the Sudan in the 1960s. He discovers a stranger among the familiar faces of childhood—the enigmatic Mustafa Sa'eed. Mustafa tells him the story of his own years in London, of his brilliant career as an economist, and of the series of fraught and deadly relationships with European women that led to a terrible public reckoning. Season of Migration to the North is a rich and sensual work of deep honesty and incandescent lyricism. In 2001 it was selected by a panel of Arab writers and critics as the most important Arab novel of the twentieth century. Masks are not required, but will be provided for free at the door. Join us in store for poetry readings from Isabella Wang, Christina Shah and Misha Solomon, hosted by Sarah Wolfson! Isabella Wang is the author of Pebble Swing (Nightwood Editions, 2021), a finalist for the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize, and the chapbook On Forgetting a Language (Baseline Press, 2019). Her poetry and prose have appeared in over thirty literary journals and five anthologies. She directs her own non-profit editing and mentorship program, Revise-Revision Street, and lives in New Westminster, BC. Christina Shah lives in New Westminster and works in heavy industry. Her poetry has appeared in numerous Canadian literary journals and has been shortlisted for the Fiddlehead's 2021 Ralph Gustafson Poetry Prize and has appeared in Best Canadian Poetry 2023. She is one-fifth of the Harbour Centre 5 poetry collective. if: prey, then: huntress is her first full-length poetry collection. Misha Solomon is a homosexual poet in and of Tiohtià:ke/Montréal. He is the author of two chapbooks, Full Sentences (Turret House Press, 2022) and FLORALS (above/ground press, 2020), and his work has appeared in Best Canadian Poetry, Arc, The Fiddlehead, Grain, The Malahat Review, The New Quarterly, Riddle Fence, and & Change. My Great-Grandfather Danced Ballet is his debut full-length collection. Masks are not required, but will be provided at the door. Bonus Room addresses the gallery as a third space estranged from the digital sphere. In a distinct moment in time when artists are producing for both physical and digital spaces, the art process and experience can be dissonant from their social intent. Through painting, drawing, and sculpture, seven artists–Andrea Chenier, Julia Mobbs, Thomas Prodani, Dane Matthews, Meriem Haddou, Beatrix Prior, and Colin Mills–explore the contradiction between the flat digital image and the real experience of art's material origins. Responding to the saturation of artwork in the digital sphere, artists question the physical experience of trend-oriented artworks, playfully considering space, material, and image origin. Bonus Room is open for one night only. BYOB.

Ex-Tension is an interdisciplinary group exhibition bringing together designers and artisans from Mile-Ex. Conceived as an extension of a neighbourhood, a network, and a place, the project highlights the creative density of this area through an immersive experience. This event will inaugurate Atelier L'Abri's new space with a group exhibition orchestrated by Procedures Industry. The proposal invites the public to discover the richness of the practices and partnerships that animate this creative ecosystem, made up of collaborations, materialities, processes, and exchanges.

New Age Contamination. MOLD, a nomadic gallery, presents Passengers, an exhibition highlighting the work of designers and artists Emile Algue, Geneviève Grenier, Jacqueline Beaumont, Jean-Michel Gadoua, Juliette Dupont, L.L.Y. Atelier, Olivier Bonnard, Philippe St-Denis, Rachel Bussin, Simon Johns and Sophie Murphy, who challenge the established order, push boundaries, and follow their own path.

Sténopé is the first solo exhibition of Matéo L. Sampaio curated by Mathieu Deschênes. Developed from photographic negatives discovered in an abandoned site, the project unfolds at the intersection of reality and fiction, activating fragments of memory linked to a forgotten family.

Soft Goods, an exhibition organized by Double Entendre, explores how soft materials can give rise to objects through the creative process. Bringing together Canadian designers, artists, and architects, the exhibition invites experimentation with malleable and flexible materials such as fabric, foam, paper, silicone, and other mediums to shape objects that reveal the full creative potential of softness. Focusing on furniture, objects, and small-scale lighting, the exhibition creates a coherent dialogue between works ranging from tactile, organic forms to pieces that evolve toward more structured or unexpected results.

Genuinely one of the most interesting artist studios within walking distance from the Mile End. Studio Beaumont, once a functioning industrial building, is now a creative home for an assortment of artists and designers. The tenants are neither an organization nor collective, but instead neighbours sharing walls, tools, and ideas; cooperating to maintain one of the few remaining affordable spaces for independent practices in Montreal.

Eastern Bloc et Art Souterrain présentent une soirée de téléperformances explorant la notion d'ubiquité, cette capacité d'être présent·e en plusieurs lieux à la fois, réinterprétée à travers les technologies de téléprésence.

Trois projets en développement proposent des approches singulières de cette réflexion. Geopresence, de Paloma Dawkins et Fili Gibbons, ouvre la soirée avec une tapisserie médiatique mêlant son, visuels en temps réel et pratiques incarnées pour décentrer notre regard sur le territoire. Telepæsants, une performance de Michal Seta et Dirk Stromberg, propose un jam électronique entre Montréal et Singapour où distance et latence deviennent matière créative. La soirée se conclut avec Incantations, du collectif Future Ancestors : Koko Mariano, Jielin Liu et Najeeba Ahmed, une performance multisensorielle explorant des formes spéculatives de connexion et de communication au-delà du langage.

La soirée débutera par une marche guidée au coucher du soleil dans le jardin industriel devant Eastern Bloc, diffusée en direct sur notre Instagram.

Eastern Bloc and Art Souterrain present an evening of teleperformances exploring the notion of ubiquity, the ability to be present in multiple places at once, reinterpreted through telepresence technologies.

Three projects in development offer singular approaches to this reflection. Geopresence, by Paloma Dawkins and Fili Gibbons, opens the evening with a media tapestry blending sound, real-time visuals and embodied practices to decenter our perception of territory. Telepæsants, a performance by Michal Seta and Dirk Stromberg, proposes an electronic jam between Montréal and Singapore where distance and latency become creative material. The evening closes with Incantations, by the collective Future Ancestors: Koko Mariano, Jielin Liu and Najeeba Ahmed, a multisensory performance exploring speculative forms of connection and communication beyond language.

The evening will begin with a guided sunset walk through the industrial garden lot in front of Eastern Bloc, livestreamed on our Instagram.
