Le Festival BD de Montréal lancera le bal sur la rue Saint-Denis, du 14 au 18 mai.

The Constellation kick off bike ride/beach hang. Meet at 5pm, departure at 5:30pm SHARP. We will ride bikes to a sketchy beach on the voie maritime. The sketchy beach is magical with best view of the city and the sunset. The bike ride is about 12kms and is mostly flat. We can ride bikes the whole way there. At the end we have to descend a small steep hill and short walk along a path to the water. The accessibility of this terrain depends greatly on the weather immediately before the event (it could be muddy, slippery, overgrown, or dry and very passable). We don't know what beach we will exactly end up on, as this depends on the conditions the day of. Should arrive by 6:30. You can also get there by walking, or taking public transit part of the way and then walking 6-8 kms. No bathrooms, no running water, no services of any kind. Nearest store is 10kms away. RAIN OR SHINE. Things to bring: Water, Snacks, Firewood, Sunscreen (if sunny), Long sleeves and pants (if cool and/or buggy), Bugspray, Lights for the ride home, Friends, Swimming gear (if you wanna swim), Something to sit on, Toilet paper, Games!

Technospaces On Film, captures the blur and the background of the already and soon-to-be obsolete technologies abutting and intruding into our lives. Together we will watch films and moving image works that examine different aspects of the affective and extractive behaviours inherent in our digital interactions to reflect on the 'real' costs of these choices. Screenings: Fresh Kill (1994, dir. Shu Lea Chang) and Video Home System (2018, dir. Sharlene Bamboat)

Cette année le Festival a une riche programmation complètement gratuite de plus de 60 activités sous le thème VIVANTE! C'est un record de plus de 350 artistes et 190 exposantes qui sont attendues sous ses chapiteaux. Pour illustrer cette thématique et souligner notre anniversaire, nous avons choisi une figure marquante de la BD montréalaise : Julie Rocheleau! Ses affichés aux compositions dynamiques sont toujours élégantes et sensibles, avec une petite touche punk qui lui est propre.

Public events take place on May 15 - 16 across spaces at Concordia University in the EV building at the SGW downtown campus. Embodied Interventions is a performance festival involving students from LePARC research cluster and beyond. This year's theme will focus on the overlapping spaces between labour and performance. The work of animation, and the animation of work: to animate a space, to be animated, animare, to give movement or life. In a cultural moment of increased automation and global upheaval, labour becomes disconnected and disembodied. Experiences of precarity and the realities of global capital touch many more of our lives; shaping the way we perform selfhood, making, and relationality. Work bleeds into life, love and leisure. Animation speaks to both the moving body as the sign of freedom, spirit, and liveliness, and to the movement of labour needed to put into motion, to make things happen, to endow matter with life. To (re)animate in this context might be to return to a politic of embodiment, to value both labour and labourer. Through social media and the digital, our relationships to performance are also changed; we take the invisible for granted and fetishize the performative. The machinations of labour are the undercurrent that animates our lives. The work of the performer becomes the work of the contemporary subject - the production of subjectivity, sociality and emotion.

At the whim of our permeable bodies offers a relational and performative experiment around the ritual of tea. The performance begins with the installation of a large table around which the audience is invited to share tea and biscuits. The artist initiates conversations on contemporary issues related to technology and intersectional feminism. Open-ended questions to guests aim to create a safe and sensitive space, leaving room for participants' feelings. In this sense, the work aims to appease fears related to technology while affirming the political power of intimate spaces.

Dans le cadre de sa collaboration soutenue depuis plus de cinq ans avec Art + Féminisme, Artexte vous invite à une session de contribution sur Wikipédia et Wikidata consacrée aux pratiques de soin intersectionnelles dans l’art contemporain.

Cet édit-a-thon vise à mettre en lumière des artistes, auteur·trices et travailleur·euses culturel·les dont les démarches mobilisent des éthiques radicales du soin — entendu comme pratique politique, collective et située. Une attention particulière sera portée aux personnes sous-représentées sur Wikipédia, notamment les femmes, les personnes autochtones, noires et de couleur (PANDC), LGBTQIA2S+, en situation de handicap, migrantes ou diasporiques, dont les voix méritent de prendre toute leur place dans l’encyclopédie libre.

Aucune expérience préalable n’est requise. Tout le monde est bienvenu·e.

Edit Intersectional Care Practices in Contemporary Art

Hybrid event – In person and on Zoom



As part of its ongoing support for Art + Feminism, Artexte invites you to a Wikipedia and Wikidata contributive event, dedicated to editing intersectional care practices in contemporary art.

This edit-a-thon aims to highlight artists, authors, and cultural workers whose practices are rooted in radical care practices – to be understood as a political, collective and situated practice. Particular attention will be given to underrepresented groups on Wikipedia, including women, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA2S+, people with disabilities, migrants or part of the diaspora, whose voices deserve to take up space in the free encyclopedia.

No experience is needed. Everyone is welcome.

You can bring any crafting or art project you like, just nothing messy, as this is a café and not a studio. You don't need to be an expert craftster either, we're all just there to hang out.

Do I need to bring a craft project?
You don't actually! Most people do, but you can totally stop by to just chat, draw, work, whatever you feel like.

N'importe quel projet d'artisanat ou d'art, tant que c'est pas salissant. C'est un café, pas un studio. Pas besoin d'être un.e expert.e en artisanat non plus, on est juste là pour passer du bon temps.

Est-ce qu'il faut que j'amène un projet d'artisanat?
Non tu n'es pas obligé-e! La plupart de personnes auront un projet, mais tu peux tout à fait juste venir pour jaser, travailler, dessiner, peu importe ce que tu veux!

Animation speaks to both the moving body as the sign of freedom, spirit, and liveliness, and to the movement of labour needed to put into motion, to make things happen, to endow matter with life. To (re)animate in this context might be to return to a politic of embodiment, to value both labour and labourer. Through social media and the digital, our relationships to performance are also changed; we take the invisible for granted and fetishize the performative. The machinations of labour are the undercurrent that animates our lives. The work of the performer becomes the work of the contemporary subject - the production of subjectivity, sociality and emotion.

Au cours de cette séance apaisante, les participant·es sont invité·s à ralentir, à préparer du thé et à passer du temps avec des formes ludiques surdimensionnées telles que des doigts, des oreilles et des yeux, ainsi que des tableaux tactiles qui invitent au toucher et à la tendresse. Il n’y a pas de structure formelle, juste une invitation à écouter, à ressentir et à être. C’est un espace d’écoute et d’exploration sensorielle, où le toucher et le son s’entremêlent. Que vous vous asseyiez pour réfléchir tranquillement, que vous partagiez un souvenir sensoriel ou que vous profitiez simplement de la chaleur du thé et de la compagnie, vous êtes libre de participer comme bon vous semble. Join artist Salima Punjani for an intimate gathering with the soft sculptures of Sensory Glisk. In this gentle session, participants are invited to slow down, make tea, and spend time with the playful forms such as oversized fingers, ears, eyes and tactile tableaux that invite touch and tenderness. There’s no formal structure, just an invitation to listen, feel, and be. This is a space for listening and sensory exploration, where touch and sound intertwine. Whether you sit in quiet reflection, share a sensory memory, or simply enjoy the warmth of tea and company, you’re welcome to engage however it feels good for you. Stay as long as you would like.

Celebrate the launch of Lire Queer Reader Fest with an evening of books, connection, and dancing. The night begins with an English-language literary activity hosted by Lenore at 7 PM sharp (doors and sign-up at 6:30). Meet other LGBTQ+ book lovers through a series of short, timed conversations about your favourite queer reads — bring books to share or swap if you like. At 7:30 PM, the event shifts into a lively, lesbo-centric, multigenerational dance party with DJ MIM, open to all. Montreal's Metonymy Press will be on site with books for sale throughout the evening. Samosas will be available (cash only), and Pizza Bouquet is right next door. For those who want to keep the night going, karaoke starts at 10 PM.
