IKOKOMO CITY takes up a seemingly simple mantle — to present the stories of four Black transgender sex workers in New York and Georgia. Shot in striking black and white, the boldness of the facts of these women's lives and the earthquaking frankness they share complicate this enterprise, colliding the every day with cutting social commentary and the excavation of long-dormant truths. Sharing reflections on knotty desire, far-reaching taboo, identification in labor, and gender’s many meanings, these women offer an unapologetic and cutting analysis of Black culture and society at large from a vantage point that is vibrating with energy, sex, challenge, and hard-earned wisdom.

This vital portrait is the daring directorial debut of D. Smith. A veteran of the music industry and a Grammy-nominated producer, singer, and songwriter, Smith brings her sonic skills into stunning harmony with a visual style whose grit and brassiness match the energy and spirit she elicits from her participants. Unfiltered, unabashed, and unapologetic, Smith and her subjects smash the trendy standard for authenticity, offering a refreshing rawness and vulnerability unconcerned with purity and politeness.

〰️ The exhibition, named FAG QC, tells the story of the Archives gaies du Québec over the past forty years, and through it, the evolution of the LGBTQ2S+ communities is reviewed.

Dans le cadre de notre série PREMIÈRE VUE, la lumière collective vous invite à découvrir le programme « Observations » proposé par la commissaire et auteure Nicole Gingras. Séance co-présentée par Main Film, samedi 17 février, à 10 h, à la lumière collective.

PREMIÈRE VUE est une série de projections de cinéma expérimental destinée à toute la famille (5 ans et plus). Les programmes mettent en lumière le cinéma expérimental, poétique, abstrait et fait à la main ; en particulier des œuvres qui relèvent d’un cinéma d’art par opposition à des œuvres produites expressément pour un jeune public.

En présence de Nicole Gingras et des cinéastes Alisi Telengut & Guillaume Vallée.

PROGRAMME

Le programme « Observations » de la commissaire et auteure Nicole Gingras réunit quatre œuvres d’artistes qui posent un regard attentif sur le monde qui les entoure. Diverses expériences sont partagées : une leçon de vidéo en accéléré, un oiseau et son reflet dans un miroir, un papillon lune observé par un enfant, la beauté fragile et magique de la nature. Chaque œuvre mène à une découverte portée par le rire, la curiosité et l’émerveillement.

La recherche de la perle rare, c'est ce qui obsède depuis plusieurs années Philippe Noël et La Mano Peluda (Clément Jehan) créateurs et DJ de la soirée mensuelle montréalaise Canicule Tropicale. La perle rare, c'est le disque vinyle oublié qui retournera une piste de danse.

Le champs d'action de ces deux "diggers" (terme utilisé pour qualifier les traqueurs de disques rares), collectionneurs et donc DJ est large : l'Afrique, l'Amérique latine, les Caraïbes, le Moyen-Orient, l'Asie... Est-il besoin de préciser que la zone ciblée est tropicale? Ces disques venus d'ailleurs sont également d'une autre époque, entre 1950 et 1980.

Démarrée en 2010 et installée à la Sala Rossa depuis 2017 (après 2 ans au Divan Orange précédé de 3 ans à l'Inspecteur Épingle), la soirée Canicule Tropicale propose maintenant sur un GROS DANCEFLOOR un menu très éclectique en terme d'origines et de genres musicaux, passant de l'afrobeat à la cumbia, du kompa au forró, de l'ethio-jazz à la salsa, pour n'en nommer que quelques-uns.

Canicule Tropicale s'est également illustrée dans la plupart des grands festivals ou événements québécois (Festival de Jazz (2010, 2011 et 2013), Festival Nuits D'Afrique (2012,2016 et 2017, Festival du bout du monde de Gaspé, Piknic Elektronic, Festival Montréal en lumière (Nuit blanche 2015 et 2016), Pop Montréal, Mundial, RIDM).

The D&Q cookbook club is back! If a cookbook club is new to you, the idea is like a traditional book club, but instead of talking about a book we’ve all read, we all make a recipe (or multiple recipes) from a cookbook and share pictures our dishes on the event page and all together at a gathering at the bookshop. The club is hosted by Isabella Geddes and is free to attend.

This season, we've chosen More Is More: Get Loose in the Kitchen. In this new recipe book, New York Time Best Seller Molly Baz is teaching cooks how to level up their cooking, loosen up in front of that ripping hot pan, and seek deliciousness at all costs. More Is More is a philosophy that encourages more risk-taking, better intuition, fewer exact measurements, and a “don’t stop ‘til it tastes delicious” mentality.
