Fondé en 1992, Ratchet Orchestra rassemble plusieurs des musicien·ne·s les plus actif·ve·s de la scène montréalaise de la musique improvisée. Ensemble phare et en constante évolution, le Ratchet développe une musique dense et collective où la puissance sonore n’est jamais dissociée d’une profonde fragilité humaine.

Porté par un large ensemble de voix, vents, cordes, guitares et percussions, le Ratchet Orchestra explore la tension entre écriture et improvisation, chaos et écoute, énergie brute et délicatesse. Chaque performance devient un espace de risque partagé, où le son se construit dans l’instant et dans le mouvement du groupe.

Founded in 1992, Ratchet Orchestra brings together some of the most active musicians from Montreal’s improvised music scene. A large, ever‑shifting ensemble, the Ratchet creates dense collective music in which raw sonic power is inseparable from human vulnerability.

Drawing on voices, winds, strings, guitar and percussion, Ratchet Orchestra explores the dynamic tension between composition and improvisation, intensity and sensitivity. Each performance becomes a shared act of risk‑taking, where sound emerges through close listening, momentum and collective presence.

Bellbird est un quartet basé à Montréal réunissant Claire Devlin (saxophone ténor), Allison Burik (saxophone alto, clarinette basse), Eli Davidovici (contrebasse) et Mili Hong (batterie). Ancrée dans le jazz contemporain, la musique du groupe intègre des influences allant du contrepoint atonal aux grooves rock, en passant par des mélodies folk, le minimalisme et une énergie (post)punk assumée.

Issu·e·s de parcours et de scènes musicales variés à travers trois pays, les membres se sont rencontré·e·s dans l’underground montréalais. Leur premier album Root In Tandem (2023) a été salué par la critique, et après une tournée remarquée sur le circuit des festivals de jazz canadiens en 2024, Bellbird a signé chez Constellation Records. Leur second album, The Call, est paru en février 2026.

Bellbird is a Montreal‑based quartet featuring Claire Devlin (tenor saxophone), Allison Burik (alto saxophone, bass clarinet), Eli Davidovici (double bass), and Mili Hong (drums). Rooted in modern jazz, the group weaves in influences ranging from atonal counterpoint and rock grooves to folk melodies, Minimalism, and a driving (post)punk spirit.

Coming from different countries and musical scenes, the quartet coalesced within Montreal’s genre‑bending underground. Their 2023 debut Root In Tandem received strong critical praise, followed by an acclaimed run on Canada’s jazz festival circuit in 2024. Signed to Constellation Records in 2025, Bellbird released their second album, The Call, in February 2026.
