Join Marion Schneider for the presentation of her project carried out as part of her residency at Ada X from February 3 to March 27, 2026. Common Ground is a research-creation project that explores how digital art can become a space for improvisation, shared attention, and collaboration between humans, machines, plants, and fungi. At the crossroads of queer ecology, neuroscience, and media arts, it questions our ways of thinking about intelligence and seeks to decenter the anthropocentric perspective. The symbiotic audiovisual performance tool that Marion is working on uses EEG (electroencephalogram) brain signals, biosignals from lichens and mosses, and local artificial intelligence to generate images and sounds in real time. The rabbit is out of the hat: this coming Easter Sunday, we are pleased to bring you an evening of droney, doomy, and exploratory sounds from three of Mtl's finest.
Fumerolles (Frédérique Duval) will open the evening with a rich tapestry of solo electronic sounds for inner and outer landscapes.
This will be followed by the collagist avant-rock improvisations of 1/4 Tonne, featuring Eric Craven on drums, Nick Kuepfer on guitar and reel to reel, and Mark Molnar on cello and electronics.
The evening will culminate with the hypnotic psychedelic excursions of Some Became Hollow Tubes, featuring Eric Quach from thisquietarmy on guitar and effects and Aidan Girt from Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Exhaust on drums.
There will be chocolate.

Developed in conjunction with Satellites! — a previous exhibition at Emporium Builder Supplies — this event is a screening of three works by Michael Snow. Snow, an artist and filmmaker working throughout the mid 20th century in Canada sought to use a medium's materiality to draw attention to the sensory experience of viewing art. This selection of his 16mm films also features a discussion with André Habib, professor and historian of art and film; writer and experimental filmmaker Clint Enns; and researcher Léa Jusseau.

On Wednesday 8 April at 6pm, join us for a discussion with our editor Victoria Addona about our latest publication How Modern: Biographies of Architecture in China 1949–1979 and the upcoming book accompanying the exhibition The fortune of the city is that it has never been perfect.

A History of Making, Using, Describing and Making Accessible Electronic Circuit Diagrams

In her first solo exhibition, Arta Ajeti presents a new body of intimate graphite drawings based on a personal archive of photographic references. Feminine figures appear in shadowy, dreamlike scenes populated by wrecked cars, theatrical curtains, static-filled screens, stairwells, storm clouds, and ornamental surfaces, where glamour and decay sit in uneasy proximity. Using graphite, Ajeti pushes the image toward both clarity and breakdown, creating works suspended between memory, fantasy, and desire.

Artists Zohra Opoku and Mallory Lowe Mpoka discuss shared concerns surrounding memory, materiality, and the transmission of diasporic histories. Both artists engage with the space between identity and memory as a means of movement and connection, bridging cultures, geographies, and time. This talk is part of a larger initiative titled "Networks of the Black Atlantic: Cultural Heritage, Knowledge, and Solidarity."

Carrefour is opening on Wednesday, April 8th with histamine, Shahan Assadourian's first solo exhibition. Located in Family's former gallery space on Laurier West, Carrefour is the brainchild of Sophie présente and Family. The show brings together an entirely new body of work that investigates Shahan's previous exploration of infection, emotional freedom, and cuteness overload.

Jérôme Nadeau will present his solo show A GOOD SLEEPER. The paintings in the exhibition were developed through multiple phases. Images shift and transform from one state to another: drawings and photographs are digitized, compressed, translated into sound, then reconverted, printed, altered, scanned, and digitally reconfigured before being screen-printed at the limits of legibility. The works do not seek to illustrate or stabilize, but to probe what wavers: blurred thresholds of perception, zones of noise, surfaces shaped by error and uncertainty.

Patience is a solo presentation by Ontario-based artist Tony Romano. Carrefour is pleased to host Romano's work in Montreal, revisiting a selection of video and sculptural works produced between 2022 and 2024. This exhibition is made possible thanks to Franz Kaka.

First workshop of the 'Reimagining Research' Spring Workshop Series. Hosted by Lucie Leroux (Laboratoire Textile, Montreal), in collaboration with Alice Jarry and Miranda Smitheram, this four-hour workshop introduces bio-inspired folding as a research-creation methodology at the intersection of design, engineering, and living systems. Moving beyond the representation of natural phenomena, participants will explore folding as a performative, speculative, and relational process that translates principles of growth, locomotion, deployability, adaptation, and responsiveness into material form. Through hands-on experimentation and an introduction to accessible techniques, participants will prototype paper and fabric structures, foregrounding folding as a medium for developing soft and adaptive applications. Part of the NFRF project Origami-inspired Deployable Sensoriactuator Soft Robots, co-directed by Hamid Akbarzadeh, Alice Jarry, Miranda Smitheram, Marta Cerruti, and David Meger. Le Jeu is a photographic exhibition that explores the perceptions of day, the temporality of night. The intimacy of the body. The gazes cast upon the other that teach us about ourselves. How we look, what we feel. Lussier's work often employs experimentation, fragmentation and distortion to highlight feelings and spaces of intimacy surrounding the body. Six years ago a hundred people crammed into a small art space in Hochelaga, braving a typical Montreal blizzard, for the inaugural Egg The Poet, celebrating poetry and community and the birth of the city's newest literary journal. It's in this spirit that Yolk Literary has carried on over six years, amplifying the voices of writers and artists in Montreal and beyond. The event will have live music, dancing, pop-up poetry, limited edition merch, light food, beverages, and free goodies, and Yolk's first art exhibition since 2021.

Join us in store for the launch of Natalie Southworth's short story collection, There's Always More to Say. The author will be joined for a Q&A with Paige Cooper, author of Zolitude. In the title story, sisters sneak out of their unstable mother's apartment to find "reality," an experience with lasting repercussions. Southworth concentrates on moments of disconnection, family fragility and unexpected expressions of love. The stories focus on characters struggling to achieve what they think they should want despite the demands and loneliness of modern life. Infused with humour and verve, yet full of warmth, Southworth interrogates the quest for more and what it means when ambition clashes with private reality. Masks are not required, but will be provided for free at the door. For elevator access to the store, please contact us at least a day in advance.

Dylan Pinette is a Métis Two-Spirit multi-instrumentalist and composer from Sainte-Rose-du-Lac, Manitoba. Self-taught until arriving in Ottawa in 2022, Dylan has since performed with the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, Festival Classical, the Orchestre de la Francophonie, the Orchestre des Mélomanes, Hadron, and many others. Now based in Montreal, they are pursuing a Master's in oboe at McGill University. Two performances: 19h30 & 21h30.

Blind Field Shuttle (2010–aujourd'hui) est une performance de marche collaborative où Carmen Papalia guide de grands groupes de participant·es lors d'un parcours non visuel à travers des environnements urbains ou ruraux. Placé·es en file derrière l'artiste, les participant·es tiennent le bras de la personne devant eux·elles et acceptent de garder les yeux fermés pendant toute la durée de la marche, d'environ une heure. Prolongement de la pratique personnelle de marche de Papalia, cette performance invite les participant·es à mobiliser leurs sens non visuels tout en négociant collectivement les déplacements, les obstacles et le contexte culturel dans lequel la vision est dominante. À mesure que les participants avancent ensemble, l'œuvre révèle à la fois les barrières créées par la primauté du visuel et les réseaux de soutien interdépendants qui sous-tendent la culture du handicap. Blind Field Shuttle remet en question les idées reçues sur le handicap et l'accessibilité en considérant le handicap comme une expérience révélatrice et précieuse, et l'accessibilité comme un « espace temporaire et collectif ». Amid seemingly endless crises, several artists look to the occult in search of alternative ways of engaging with the world. Divination, spirituality, access to invisible realities: it becomes tempting to see the artist as a prophetic figure, tasked with rethinking the future in a present obsessed with projections, speculations and conjectures. This discussion, inspired by the latest issue of ESPACE magazine, "Prophecies", will be an opportunity to explore the scope and implications of the intersection between contemporary art, belief and the occult.

Design & Computation Arts Speaker Series featuring Dr. Carolina Espinoza Sanhueza. This lecture will present insights from research projects focused on improving indoor environmental quality in Northern localities. Dr. Espinoza Sanhueza is an architect, researcher, and educator dedicated to creating sustainable, carbon-neutral environments that place human well-being at their core. Her work integrates architectural design with environmental performance, using building parameters, light quality, indoor air quality, and thermal comfort, as levers for enhancing occupant health and spatial experience, specifically in Northern climates. Her research advances simulation-based methods, immersive visualization, and post-occupancy evaluation to support evidence-based design decision-making.

Thirty years later, we will commemorate JenniCam's anniversary with a day-long event about and through live streaming practices. Keynote lecture by Susanna Paasonen (online), plus an in-situ conversation. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

Tarcisio will share his research on an Afro-Brazilian visual imaginary, drawing on the concept of Quilombismo as articulated by Abdias do Nascimento. In Tarcisio’s work, he explores how flags can be a powerful medium for speculation, reimagining collective symbols and narratives. Through research-creation, he investigates how national identities are deliberately designed and how they can foster new understandings of resistance and belonging in the Brazilian context. 
 
𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗱𝗶 (he/him) is an Afro-Brazilian designer and artist born in São Paulo and now based in Tio’tia:ke/Montreal. Committed to Black-centred creation through a Quilombista lens, Tarcisio specializes in speculative design and diverse cultural manifestations across design and art. His work explores the design, symbolism, and cultural significance of flags. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from Universidade Estadual Paulista (São Paulo State University) and a Master’s degree in Design from Concordia University in Montreal. He currently works as a designer for the Aboriginal Territories in Cyberspace at the Indigenous Futures Research Centre.

Second presentation of the Design & Computation Arts Speaker Series featuring Dr. Iva Rešetar, an architect and interdisciplinary researcher at the Cluster of Excellence Matters of Activity at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Iva Rešetar studied architecture at the University of Belgrade and the Städelschule in Frankfurt and received her doctorate from the Berlin University of the Arts' Department of Digital and Experimental Design. Her dissertation critically examines the relationship between architecture and environmental technologies, searching out historical and experimental knowledge of thermodynamic processes of phase change in architecture – how they are sensed, mediated and acted upon in context of the current climate crisis. Her interests lie in fluid materialities, methods and practices of energy and heat, and their implications for environmental regeneration and repair of the built environment. Recent publications include Breath: Morphological, Ecological and Social Dimensions (De Gruyter, 2022), and Thermodynamic Structures: Modulating Heat with Phase Change Materials in Architecture (Berlin University of the Arts, 2025).

Every Part of Me Feels explores somatic memory: how green spaces, damaged or destroyed by human activity, live on in our collective bodies. The exhibition presents the practices of Mila Figuet, Oriana Confente, and Bastik (Anick Jasmin), who explore the retention of emotional memory of Boisé Steinberg.

Artefacts is a showcase of graphic, object, and multimedia design bringing together the work of Concordia's Design and Computation Arts students. The show focuses on critical perspectives and sustainable approaches to materialism, crafting meaningful experiences that challenge design's role in contemporary and future societies.

Receptacle is a foundry-focused exhibition that brings together advanced metal casting undergraduate students from Concordia. The show foregrounds the labour, process, and collective knowledge at the heart of foundry practice. The showcased cast works were developed in part from recycled aluminum and bronze. The exhibition invites viewers to find the art hidden within the everyday objects of the historical site.

Tatsuya Nakatani est un percussionniste d’avant-garde, un compositeur et un artiste sonore. Actif sur la scène internationale depuis les années 1990, Nakatani a publié plus de 80 enregistrements et effectué de nombreuses tournées, donnant plus de 150 concerts par an. Il donne des classes de maîtres et des conférences dans les universités et les conservatoires de musique du monde entier. Originaire du Japon, il vit dans la ville désertique de Truth or Consequences, au Nouveau-Mexique. Grâce à ses activités dans les domaines de la musique nouvelle, de l’improvisation et de la musique expérimentale, Nakatani multiplie les collaborations.
La musique de Nakatani est centrée sur un gong adapté pour être joué à l’archet, soutenu par un ensemble de tambours, de cymbales et de bols chantants. Avec ses archets Kobo qu’il sculpte à la main, il a consacré des décennies à affiner et développer son univers sonore : un agencement de vibrations qui s’enlisent dans des strates scintillantes de silence et de texture. Au cœur de cette œuvre contemporaine, on perçoit encore le rythme dramatique, l’élégance formelle et l’espace (ma) caractéristiques de la musique traditionnelle japonaise.
Cosmic Diver est un duo de performance sonore et vidéo composé de Lina Choi et Robin-Dimitrije Gosselin-Monasevic qui explore un monde sous-marin imaginaire où les frontières entre les profondeurs de la mer et l'espace s'estompent. With his activity in new music, improvisation, and experimental music, Nakatani has a long history of collaboration.
Nakatani’s distinctive music centered around his adapted bowed gong, supported by an array of drums, cymbals, and singing bowls. In consort with his personally hand-carved Kobo Bows, he has spent decades refining and developing his sound as an arrangement of formations of vibrations, incorporated in shimmering layers of silence and texture. Within this contemporary work, one can still recognize the dramatic pacing, formal elegance and space (ma) felt in traditional Japanese music.

As film moves to television and television to our pockets, the material conditions of everyday media consumption appear once again to have changed. But not only are past and present media practices more varied, unpredictable, and historically-rooted, they also challenge the (still dominant) visual-centricism of spectatorship studies. Indeed, our sensory experiences (of sound, touch, smell, etc.) are shaped and stimulated by diverse material forms, emotional attachments, and expressive rituals. Drawing on cultural history, media archaeology, and ordinary media stuff, this panel reconsiders the present focus on smartphones, social media and streaming by exploring transformations in material media cultures since the 1980s: toy voice devices, comfort viewing, and interactive video. Together, these talks examine the cultural politics of media consumption in recent decades. Third presentation of the Design & Computation Arts Speaker Series featuring Zherui Wang. Zherui Wang is a designer and building technology researcher at the University of Pennsylvania Weitzman School of Design. His work focuses on devising architectural methods for cooling and climate-response design for extreme heat while being mindful of material use. Supported by the U.S. Department of Energy's ARPA-E program, his PhD research explores the design integration of structural form-finding and building thermal mass performance, informed by architectural geometry, materials science, and life cycle thinking. He is a co-author of Hydroculus, an evaporative and radiative cooling roof prototype that was exhibited in the Venice Architecture Biennale and received a Holcim Foundation Award for Sustainable Design and Construction. Previously, Wang was an Academic Professional Researcher at CHAOS Lab in Princeton. He has practiced in design roles at Barkow Leibinger Architects and served on the design faculty at the University of Pennsylvania, Pratt Institute, and State University of New York at Buffalo, where he was named the 2020-21 Reyner Banham Fellow. Wang holds a BArch from Pratt Institute, a post-professional MArch from Princeton University, and a graduate certificate in Energy Policy from the Penn Kleinman Center.

This two-day, in-person workshop, preceded by an online introduction and a concert, invites participants to reconnect with their voices, bodies, and listening awareness through Deep Listening practices, vocal improvisation, sound walks, guided meditations, and free writing. No prior experience with Deep Listening or music is required—only curiosity and openness.
What Is Deep Listening?
Deep Listening is a practice developed by feminist composer Pauline Oliveros that cultivates heightened awareness of sound, self, and environment. Through simple, often playful practices, including text scores (short written instructions that invite collective attention and sound-making), participants are encouraged to listen deeply to themselves, others, and the world.

Katie has created sound scores for theatre, dance, and film, earning Drama Desk nominations and a Connecticut Critics Circle Award. She has taught music therapy at SUNY and is a frequent guest lecturer at NYU, Vassar, and the School of Visual Arts.

Kathy Kennedy is a Montreal-based sound artist with training in visual art and classical voice. Her practice explores voice, technology, and public space through telephony, radio, and large-scale participatory works. Kathy teaches music at Concordia University and regularly leads workshops on listening, acoustic ecology, and vocal improvisation.

Kathy Kennedy is a Montreal-based sound artist with training in visual art and classical voice. As part of the eighth edition of the Indigenous Contemporary Art Biennial, this exhibition brings together a wide breadth of Indigenous and diasporic artists whose work explores cultural survival, spiritual continuity, and embodied knowledge within their contexts shaped by colonial borders, displacement, and erasure. An ancestral tattooing performance by Megan Samms, Dion Kaszas, and Dr. Mel Lefebvre will take place as part of the reception.

Training event at the end of a day-long event focused on learning various skills. The space is behind the main building so you need to walk outside to the left of the main building that faces the street until you see the sign for 'Recyborg'. This event will be similar to the other ones but it would be helpful to brush up on your skills before our spring campaign begins even if you've come before. This may be the last one before we begin doing the real grafting in May. There will be regular meetups throughout May and June but the plan is for none of them to be focused on learning how to do the technique, discussing the concept of guerrilla grafting, the reasons for doing it, etc. Having said that, if you fail to come to even a single training event, you are still welcome at the events in May and June.

Many, Many Machine Agencies' Writing Workshop. AI Chantier of the Hexagram Network brings together maker-thinkers whose work spans machine learning, interaction design, and experience design, to create a community of practice through a publication process. Prompting potential contributors with an unusual format, Many, Many Machine Agencies asks for recipes, instructions, or games that centre the problem of agency and interaction and the importance of new kinds of encounters with machines. This edited collection is indeed a kind of a cookbook for engaging critically with machines, and as such, we take inspiration from celebrated cookbook authors, like MFK Fisher, who provide recipes and instructions for dishes, while embedding them in a broader biographical and cultural narrative. This cookout session invites contributors to the AI Chantier publication drive to: Learn more about the recipe methodology and its relevance for engaging with machine agencies and AI, To talk about their writing project (share ingredients) and get feedback, Get a clearer picture about what the publishing process will look like. The Friends of the McGill Libraries and Blue Metropolis Literary Festival are delighted to present the 2026 Hugh MacLennan Lecture featuring Maria Reva, author of fiction and opera libretti.

Maria Reva's debut novel, Endling, was winner of the 2025 Atwood Gibson Writers' Trust Fiction Prize, longlisted for the 2025 Booker Prize, a finalist for the 2025 Governor General's Literary Award for fiction, nominated for the 2026 Dublin Literary Award, and longlisted for the 2026 Climate Fiction Prize. It was named a best book of 2025 by The Globe and Mail, New Yorker, Publishers Weekly, The Guardian, and many others. She won a National Magazine Award in 2019 and was a finalist for the 2020 Atwood Gibson Writers' Trust Fiction Prize for her debut short story collection, Good Citizens Need Not Fear. Maria Reva's writing has appeared in The Atlantic, McSweeney's, The Wall Street Journal, Granta, The Best American Short Stories, and elsewhere. She was born in Ukraine and grew up in British Columbia, where she now lives.

The evening will feature a conversation between Maria Reva and Allan Hepburn, James McGill Professor of Twentieth-Century Literature at McGill University. Professor Hepburn's research focuses on the novel - British, American, Irish, Canadian. His areas of interest include modernism; contemporary fiction, twentieth-century fiction, and aesthetics.

Books are on sale online through Paragraphe Bookstore. Audience members who bring their own book to the event may have it signed by Maria Reva after the lecture.

Stephanie Bolster's latest book of poetry, Long Exposure, began as an exploration of Robert Polidori's photographs of New Orleans and Chernobyl. Her first book, White Stone: The Alice Poems, won the Governor General's Award and the Gerald Lampert Award and was translated into French. She teaches creative writing at Concordia. Ian Pople's poems have been published in Canada in Fiddlehead and Antigonish Review, the United States in Poetry, Plume, Subtropics and in the UK in London Review of Books, Manchester Review, Poetry Review and Times Literary Supplement. His chapbook, Spillway, was published by Anstruther in Toronto in 2020. Derek Webster's first collection of poems, Mockingbird, was a finalist for the Gerald Lampert Award, and his second collection, National Animal, won the 2024 A.M. Klein Prize for Poetry. The third workshop of the 'Reimagining Research' Spring Workshop Series. This workshop will allow participants to re-imagine and transform photographs, digital images and other works through Polaroid emulsion lifts. Exploring the materiality of film and photographic practice, participants will work directly with the image of their choosing, lifting, folding, stretching and tearing it. The process of emulsion lifting briefly reduces the image to a ghostly film to then be bonded to another material such as paper, cardboard, or fabric. This physical manipulation of imagery provides a framework to discuss transparencies/opacities of identity and selfhood, thinking through ideas of disclosure and (mis)recognition. Participants are invited to bring pre-existing digital images that can be printed on Polaroid film, or to take photos on site to experiment with the process. Spaces are limited. Dissecting and reassembling the elements of photonovels, Gaudreau draws forth details that disrupt its usual narrative continuity. This pop literary genre is thus reconfigured into a choreographic space in which texts and images tumble out of sync.

By adopting strategies akin to visual ethnography, the trio, composed of Parastoo Anoushahpour, Faraz Anoushahpour, and Ryan Ferko, multiplies perspectives on the modernization of Iran, its rural regions, and the families witnessing their industrialization. Archives and image-making apparatuses become playgrounds and sites of subversion as much as catalysts for encounters, from which the artists conduct an autopsy of a territory.

Presented each spring at Galerie de l'UQAM, Passage à découvert showcases the work of UQAM's graduating students in the Bachelor of Visual and Media Arts program, highlighting their creative vitality, freedom, and curiosity. Thanks to the multidisciplinary approach favoured by UQAM's School of Visual and Media Arts, the student works on display address a wide variety of subjects, approaches, and techniques in dialogue with the contemporary world. This year, several projects reimagine the concept of materiality by examining its transformations and modes of perception. Others explore the relationship to the body, identities, and performativity, deploying playful displays that convey a sensitive relationship to reality.

VOX and VISIONS invite you to a special evening with the artists of the exhibition One's Own Eyes. Moving between the frames of Lovers' Wind (2024) and Chooka (2018), the trio unfolds a live reading and performance—following images as they oscillate across cycles of violence and war. This workshop explores the relationship between scents, 3D digital creation, and memory. Participants are invited to interact with different smells and use creative writing as a springboard to "translate" these scents into 3D digital sculptures, either by digitizing clay models or by using the Nomad app on an iPad. These sculptures become archival manifestations of place and smell, whilst simultaneously testifying to the subjectivity and mutability of memory. Racines créatives is a group exhibition bringing together seven artists and designers from the Afro-descendant community, spanning from Montreal to Martinique. The exhibition creates a dialogue between their creative expressions, offering a rich and multifaceted cultural portrait. Through a variety of mediums and themes, each participant contributes a unique vision, fostering a collective reflection on cultural identities and urban interactions.

Photographer Vincent Castonguay and filmmaker David Simard captured the final days of the residency, translating the essence of the space, the richness of gestures, and the beauty of shared daily life into images. The exhibition features photography, ceramic objects by Alexandra Gelinas, and the short film reflecting this living cultural transmission. Beyond borders, this collaboration embodies a choice: to become together. For the past year, Dan, Alexandra, and Quartier Artisan have joined forces to develop a future maker-space in Lac-Mégantic: a multi-disciplinary workshop site dedicated to preserving artisanal knowledge and hosting Québec artisans and designers. Deux Artisans stands as a manifesto for a resilient community in the making. Exhibition presented by SIALart.

The exhibition will present the work of designer-makers in ceramics, glass, textiles, and woodworking who were invited to reflect on the revalorization and creative reuse of production offcuts and scraps. An inevitable by-product of artisanal production, these materials are either reimagined through new techniques and materials or approached through installative works that reveal their technical, economic, ecological, and poetic dimensions.

After a two-year hiatus, Lambert & Fils is reopening its gallery located in the heart of its Mile End workshop. To mark this happy news, the studio is welcoming Ourse, a Toronto-based contemporary furniture manufacturer with production workshops in Montreal, as its first guest. A reservation is required for this one.

Season of Migration to the North is a rich and sensual work of deep honesty and incandescent lyricism. She is one-fifth of the Harbour Centre 5 poetry collective. if: prey, then: huntress is her first full-length poetry collection. Misha Solomon is a homosexual poet in and of Tiohtià:ke/Montréal. Bonus Room addresses the gallery as a third space estranged from the digital sphere. In a distinct moment in time when artists are producing for both physical and digital spaces, the art process and experience can be dissonant from their social intent. Through painting, drawing, and sculpture, seven artists–Andrea Chenier, Julia Mobbs, Thomas Prodani, Dane Matthews, Meriem Haddou, Beatrix Prior, and Colin Mills–explore the contradiction between the flat digital image and the real experience of art's material origins. Responding to the saturation of artwork in the digital sphere, artists question the physical experience of trend-oriented artworks, playfully considering space, material, and image origin. Ex-Tension is an interdisciplinary group exhibition bringing together designers and artisans from Mile-Ex. Conceived as an extension of a neighbourhood, a network, and a place, the project highlights the creative density of this area through an immersive experience. This event will inaugurate Atelier L'Abri's new space with a group exhibition orchestrated by Procedures Industry. The proposal invites the public to discover the richness of the practices and partnerships that animate this creative ecosystem, made up of collaborations, materialities, processes, and exchanges.

New Age Contamination. MOLD, a nomadic gallery, presents Passengers, an exhibition highlighting the work of designers and artists Emile Algue, Geneviève Grenier, Jacqueline Beaumont, Jean-Michel Gadoua, Juliette Dupont, L.L.Y. Atelier, Olivier Bonnard, Philippe St-Denis, Rachel Bussin, Simon Johns and Sophie Murphy, who challenge the established order, push boundaries, and follow their own path.

Sténopé is the first solo exhibition of Matéo L. Sampaio curated by Mathieu Deschênes. Developed from photographic negatives discovered in an abandoned site, the project unfolds at the intersection of reality and fiction, activating fragments of memory linked to a forgotten family.

Soft Goods, an exhibition organized by Double Entendre, explores how soft materials can give rise to objects through the creative process. Bringing together Canadian designers, artists, and architects, the exhibition invites experimentation with malleable and flexible materials such as fabric, foam, paper, silicone, and other mediums to shape objects that reveal the full creative potential of softness. Focusing on furniture, objects, and small-scale lighting, the exhibition creates a coherent dialogue between works ranging from tactile, organic forms to pieces that evolve toward more structured or unexpected results.

Genuinely one of the most interesting artist studios within walking distance from the Mile End. Studio Beaumont, once a functioning industrial building, is now a creative home for an assortment of artists and designers. The tenants are neither an organization nor collective, but instead neighbours sharing walls, tools, and ideas; cooperating to maintain one of the few remaining affordable spaces for independent practices in Montreal.

Trois projets en développement proposent des approches singulières de cette réflexion. Eastern Bloc and Art Souterrain present an evening of teleperformances exploring the notion of ubiquity, the ability to be present in multiple places at once, reinterpreted through telepresence technologies.

Three projects in development offer singular approaches to this reflection. Geopresence, by Paloma Dawkins and Fili Gibbons, opens the evening with a media tapestry blending sound, real-time visuals and embodied practices to decenter our perception of territory. Telepæsants, a performance by Michal Seta and Dirk Stromberg, proposes an electronic jam between Montréal and Singapore where distance and latency become creative material. Kevin Day est l'artiste 2026 pour Intervalles, un programme de résidence d'artiste de courte durée en médias numériques mis sur pied par le centre d'artistes OBORO et le Festival Accès Asie, partenaires de création depuis 1999. Le public pourra découvrir l'œuvre Silicon Shield et rencontrer l'artiste au Laboratoire nouveaux médias d'OBORO le samedi 2 mai 2026 à partir de midi.

Ancré dans une recherche sur les conditions politiques du capitalisme informationnel, son projet Silicon Shield, composé de douze sculptures en plexiglas évoquant des téléphones intelligents, vise à mettre en lumière les infrastructures matérielles et économiques qui sous-tendent les technologies numériques, notamment l’IA, à travers une analyse géopolitique ciblée des tensions entourant Taïwan.

Kevin T. Day est né à Taipei, à Taïwan. Il a obtenu une maîtrise et un doctorat en beaux-arts de l’Université de Colombie-Britannique et vit actuellement à Vancouver. Son travail a été présenté au Canada (Vancouver, Toronto, Montréal) et à l’international (Hong Kong, États-Unis, Allemagne), notamment à la Vancouver Art Gallery, au VIVO Media Arts Centre, à InterAccess, au Center for Creative Media et au Centre CLARK. Il a également présenté ses recherches sur des plateformes de premier plan en art et technologie.

Multimedia installation presented without interruption

Kevin Day is the artist selected for the 2026 edition of Interval, a short-term artist residency program in digital media set up by OBORO artist-run centre and Festival Accès Asie, creative partners since 1999. The public will be able to experience the work Silicon Shield and meet the artist at the LAB OBORO on Saturday, May 2, 2026, starting at noon.

Rooted in research on the political conditions of informational capitalism, his project Silicon Shield — comprising twelve plexiglass sculptures evoking smartphones— aims to shed light on the material and economic infrastructures underpinning digital technologies, particularly AI, through a focused geopolitical analysis of the tensions surrounding Taiwan.

Au sein de nombreuses communautés autochtones et de la diaspora, la couleur a été régulée par des systèmes fondés sur la honte et la discipline esthétique. Dans divers contextes coloniaux à travers le monde, les peuples autochtones ont été stigmatisés par des insultes locales qui les qualifiaient d’excessifs, de vulgaires, de sales ou de grossiers dès lors qu’ils conservaient leurs propres systèmes de couleurs et refusaient de s’assimiler à la blancheur. Cette exposition présente ce refus comme un système de savoir souverain et comme une continuité. Réunissant vingt-trois artistes travaillant sur les territoires autochtones et au sein de réseaux de la diaspora couvrant Abya Yala, l’Île de la Tortue, Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa, Sápmi et le pays yoruba, l’exposition retrace la manière dont la couleur fonctionne comme un système de savoir vivant à travers des lignées, des matériaux et des relations distincts.

Ce recadrage se manifeste à travers des pratiques telles que la fabrication et la parure, où le savoir est produit et transmis de génération en génération. Dans l’œuvre de l’artiste maya k’iche’ José Luis Fernando Morales, des jades et des pierres multicolores, associés à des formes sculptées, relient le savoir ancestral matrilinéaire au design autochtone contemporain. À travers l’image animée, la couleur et le chant des cigales, l’artiste maori Jamie Berry crée un environnement immersif qui enveloppe une constellation d’ornements transnationaux, façonnée par les échanges de matériaux et la fabrication collaborative à travers le Pacifique.

De l’autre côté du Pacifique, la série Diaspora’s Children de l’artiste tongien Telly Tuita porte en elle la mémoire et la nostalgie à travers des palettes saturées. Cette richesse trouve un écho dans la série Spiritually Fashionable de l’artiste yoruba Adetona Omokanye, où la mode devient un lieu de présence spirituelle et esthétique. Les artistes maoris Lissy et Rudi Robinson-Cole intègrent cette utilisation de la couleur dans des environnements immersifs ancrés dans la lignée et la spiritualité.

En Abya Yala, l’artiste aymara-quechua Cholita Chic utilise la couleur pour construire son identité queer et assurer sa visibilité. L’artiste maya kaqchikel Marilyn Boror Bor enfile des fibres teintes dans du ciment, créant ainsi un lien entre la terre, la contamination et la résistance. À Kuskatan/El Salvador, l’artiste nahua-métis Hugo Rivas utilise le camp et l’intensité pour affronter les histoires de violence militaire, de génocide et de complicité du monde de l’art, tandis que l’artiste maya-mestizo Volcancitto (Juan José Guillén) réalise des collages multicolores qui affirment la mémoire territoriale du Pacifique guatémaltèque.

La couleur reste un langage que nous continuons à parler et que nous refusons de laisser disparaître.

Trauma Sensitivity at Work is a clear, compassionate, and practical guide to building cultures of inclusion and safety by addressing an underlying cause of persistent workplace challenges: trauma. Drawing on two decades of global experience in workplace human rights, in leadership, and as a policy advisor—as well as her background as a human rights lawyer and her own healing journey—international changemaker Adriana Leigh demonstrates why trauma sensitivity is a core competency of leadership today and shows you how to cultivate it. Adriana Leigh is an award-winning international consultant and changemaker, and the founder and principal consultant at ALG Consulting. She is a former workplace human rights lawyer turned facilitator, working at the intersection of DEI, gender-based violence and harassment prevention, and psychologically safe workplace systems. She has collaborated with organizations worldwide, including the United Nations, international aid agencies, and both private and public sector entities. Recognized for her transformative work, Adriana has been featured by World Pulse as one of the "21 Women Leaders to Watch" and has received the CREA Global Award. She lives in Montreal, Canada. Contra dance is a high energy American folk dance accompanied by driving live music and taught by a caller. No partner or experience required! This dance will be called using the role names "Larks and Robins."

Architek présente La musique secrète des objets, troisième volet de sa série Object Project, qui présente des œuvres mettant en musique des objets du quotidien. Au programme : des œuvres de Mark Applebaum, Alexandre Babel, John Cage et Gyrid Nordal Kaldestad.

Architek interprète Quartet de John Cage en utilisant des objets de maison pour frapper, gratter et tapoter dans cette pièce envoûtante.

La pièce Storytable de Gyrid Nordal Kaldestad demande aux interprètes de créer un paysage sonore à l'aide de boîtes en bois fabriquées sur mesure, amplifiées par un microphone de contact soigneusement placé à l'intérieur de chaque boîte.

Dans The Brown Gardener d’Alexandre Babel, les quatre musiciens ont à disposition une collection de différents matériaux aux attributs acoustiques à priori peu complexes, qu’ils devront travailler délicatement pour en extraire un potentiel expressif.

Enfin, dans Straightjacket de Mark Applebaum, Architek est rejoint par Sandra Joseph pour cette exploration en quatre mouvements du son, de l’image et du geste.
