The Life Drawing session will be back Monday, April the 29th, 6 to 9 PM, on the 1st floor of the Peck building (5480 St-Dominique Street), in the Bernard Landry room.

The session is open to anybody willing to draw. So if you would like to join us, rendez-vous around 5:50 PM in the Bernard Landry room. No registration needed. You'll easily find the room.

Please note that for now on the session will be charged 10$/Person cash. The payment is during the break at around 7:30 PM. We don't proceed Interac transfer

Presented by Librairie Drawn and Quarterly, the Zine Club welcomes anyone 16+ who wants to draw and craft, get to know other artists, practice and work on their personal project. There is no need to have previous knowledge to be able to join the club. Registration is not required, we will be accepting everybody until room capacity (30-40 people).

Hosted by artist and D&Q's bookseller Mélina, this meeting will be held on Monday April 29th, from 7pm to 9pm, on 176 rue Bernard O.

Materials will be provided, and you are welcome to bring your own.

[EN] As part of their ongoing programming of Palestine solidarity events, the Art History Decolonial Action Group (AHDAG), the Feminist Media Studio, Regards Palestiniens, and the Doc-Inter PhD Program, are collaborating to host a free screening of Inas Halabi's feature film We No Longer Prefer Mountains (2023). The screening will be followed by a discussion with artist and filmmaker Inas Halabi, who will join us on Zoom, moderated by Claire Begbie and Varda Nisar. Join us at Concordia on 30 April for a rare opportunity to watch this film, hear Inas Halabi present her work, and reflect collectively on the intersections of landscape, environment, systems of power and control, and the construction of national identities and narratives.

WE NO LONGER PREFER MOUNTAINS (2023) takes place in the Druze town of Dalyet el Carmel, in northern Palestine, pulling the viewer into a surreal world of geographic isolation, shrouded mysticism and a locale shaped by co-optation, coercion, and control. Weaving together intimate engagements with members of the community, in shared domestic spaces and outdoor environments, the film sets out to explore how the inner politics of the Druze have been controlled and reshaped as a result of the establishment of Israel in 1948. The film is informed by the landscape theory (fûkeiron), a Japanese Avant Garde film movement in the 60s whereby the filmmakers posited that filming the everyday surroundings reveal the oppressive and repressively isolating landscapes and the powers at play.

Inas Halabi (b.1988, Palestine) is an Artist/Filmmaker. Her practice is concerned with how social and political forms of power are manifested and the impact that overlooked or suppressed histories have on contemporary life. Recent exhibitions and screenings include Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival (2023), de Appel Amsterdam (2023), Showroom London (2022), Europalia Festival, Brussels (2021), Silent Green Betonhalle, Berlin (2021); Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2020); and Film at Lincoln Center, USA (2020). She lives and works between Palestine and the Netherlands.

Claire Begbie is a member of Regards Palestiniens and a PhD student in Film and Moving Image Studies at Concordia University. Her research looks at the history of Palestine in Arab and transnational cinema.

Varda Nisar is a member of AHDAG, a mother, a daughter, and a sister. She is also a PhD candidate in Art History at Concordia. Her work diverges in several directions, including art education and community outreach, research, and writing.

What can we learn from “the ordinary”? The varied work of architect Maxwell M. Kalman (1906–2009) poses this question in the context of Montreal’s urban landscape.



On Thursday, May 2, please join us for an opening reception to celebrate the Museum of Jewish Montreal's first heritage exhibition at our Mile End home, Maxwell Kalman: Lessons from the Ordinary. This display is a photographic retrospective of the career of Maxwell M. Kalman, who designed buildings for Montreal's working class, affluent families, as well as Jewish businesses and institutions that still stand proudly today.



To reflect Kalman's presence in our city's built environment, our team has created an interactive map where guests are welcome to explore his buildings on their own, several of which are within walking distance from the Museum.



Initially conceived for presentation at McGill University's School of Architecture in 2006, we are thrilled to be re-staging this exhibition to new eyes, with materials on loan from the Alex Dworkin Canadian Jewish Archives.



Following some remarks from the Museum's team, guests are welcome to explore the exhibition, as well as meet the original curators and archivists behind the 2006 exhibition.



Refreshments (paid by card) will be available. Please note that pre-registration is required for all who with to attend.

Trans Trenderz is proud to present the first showcase of Montreal's Trans Masc Choir!

Led by Blxck Cxsper, our choir is set to turn up the energy with some unapologetically queer pop anthems, tug at your heartstrings with soulful folk melodies, and get your hips moving with the rhythms of zouk.

It's all going down at Quai Des Brumes, where doors will open at 9 PM, and the show kicks off at 9:30 PM.

Malcolm Goldstein dirige « Theatre Piece No.1 » de John Cage

In the summer of 1952, John Cage organized a collaborative theater event in the dining hall at Black Mountain College. The performance, which later came to be known as “Theater Piece No. 1,” is widely regarded as the first Happening. Accounts of the event vary. According to Cunningham, “David Tudor played the piano, M.C. Richards and Charles Olson read poetry, Robert Rauschenberg’s white paintings were on the ceiling, Rauschenberg himself played records, and Cage talked. I danced…The audience was seated in the middle of the playing area, facing each other, the chairs were arranged on diagonals, and the spectators unable to see directly everything that was happening. There was a dog which chased me around the space as I danced. Nothing was intended to be other than it was, a complexity of events that the spectators could deal with as each chose.”
